Hello, I just won an auction on ebay for a Mark XV. The article number on ebay is: 281046118116 When you enter this number in ebay search it brings up the watch with only 4 photos. The seller uploaded the last 2 photos with the movement. Does not look right to me any longer. Also the back of the watch seems to have a sticker but no engravement nor number.
Could somebody help me with advice. Thank you.
    Best wishes, Stefan

It is 100% fake ! The external photos are enough to validate that ! Don't buy !

Here is a photo of the authentic watch !

Thank you. Thats what I thought after the seller put some more photos up. Thank you. What a shame. He has a 100% positive feedback though.
The dial is wrong, right? And the back and the movement also, right?
    Thanks, Stefan

Somebody else is selling a limited edition (500 peaces) Flieger (Pilot) double chronograph from the German Soccer association. Box Paper Card, etc. Do you think the watch will keep or improve its value?

Everything is wrong with the watch Stefan when comparing it to the authentic model ! everything.

But you need to be careful on how you proceed - since the Description of the item nowhere states that it is an authentic IWC watch Mark XV.

    Dear Stefan,

Dial, back and movement are clearly not original what made you decide to bid on this watch? Did you also check the actual feedback of the seller? He only got a dozen feedbacks as seller and he only sold some cards, most objects for less than $ 1 each.

If you want to buy a 'brand' watch from an online seller you at least should know the project you are going to buy and then 'buy the seller', e.g. make sure he is trustworthy.

I wish you more luck next time and I suggest you report this product as fraudulent.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

I have no experience with E-bay myself but aparently the watch is presented as a "IWC Schaffhausen Watch" in the listing. There is also still a button to report this item, probably for being a fake? I have also heard that it's hard to get an item removed if you report it so I wonder how this will end...

Kind regards and good luck Stefan!

Actually it is not listed as Schaffhausen but as SchaffENhausen !

    Dear Stefan

I suggest that you do not seem to have enough experience about IWC and buying items online. I suggest that you don't jump into anything without doing a full exploration of the item that interest you. To escape from one close shave experience and ask immediately about another is demonstrating a level of naiivety.

Do a thorough search of the item that interests you first and then ask questions later n

Description also says it hand wound, but the very cheaply done movement has a rotor. It's a example of buy the seller to the last degree.

Thanks to you all. Wow. I asked the seller for more photos and so far he did not send any. Thanks a lot. I am very happy that I posted this question. Thanks again. I really appreciate your help.
Best of luck to you all.
By the way I have the Mark XVI in black and like the watch a lot. Just thought I could strike a bargain on this one. I feel relieved. Thank you. Sounded to good to be true.
    Best wishes,
    Stefan

Indeed, you are right! Our mind really makes us read what we want to/what we expect to read.

I am looking for the ad on my iPad and when I zoom in on the dial, I think that it does read Schaffhausen. It looks like there is not enough space to fit the extra EN under the hour hand.

A tiny funny note on the location of the item for sale: "Fond du Lac" which translates to "bottom of the lake". Sounds appropriate although recycling is better for the environment :-)

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

    Hoo boy!!
I wonder how many people are walking around unknowingly sporting fake IWC watches on their wrists??

Apparently someone bought it for $1,000. Hope the money has not exchanged hands.

Having been burned once, you reach back into the sewer and this time hope to pull out a plum? May I suggest a different course?

Spend time on this site and see the excellent pictures of real IWC's we post here. Read the discussions and learn about the watches. Learn about the care and precision that IWC puts into the manufacture of these watches. Learn the design features that help you spot fakes more easily (though it is still possible to be fooled). Learn that you are not likely to buy a multi thousand dollar genuine watch in good working order for $1000. Learn about safe places to buy watches.

If you invest in that type of education, you'll be a lot happier with the watches you buy, and are a lot less likely to encounter trouble.

It is not only eBay that sells fakes IWC's, even respectable (????) Auction houses sell fakes. I loaded a post on here a few weeks back

    www.iwc.com/forum/en/discussion/59682/

Where an auction house was selling a clearly fake WWW, I wrote to them advising that it was a fake and providing them with a link to my post, they thanked me for my email and said they were always interested in the opinion of knowledgable collectors, but sold the watch anyway. (They said the watch was being sold as part of a collection)

    Hi there,
I found another beautiful watch including papers, box, warranty card, etc. It is a Double Chronograph Rattrapante Limited DFB Edition (500) in steel. Is there any way I can can check the serial number? Is from 2008 and has been bought in 2010. Any idea how much the watch is worth in mint condition?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best wishes, Stefan
