First IWC

I am at the point in my life where I wish to own a quality watch. I have looked at all the brands and have settled for an IWC, although i may one day purchase a Patek.

Rolex and Omega are too cliche and Hublot and AP are for footballers and actors. I did look at Panerai, but a chap that i didnt like owned one, so thats out of the listing.

I hope there are lots of replys and thank you for reading this posting.

I would really like something that i can wear during the week with my suits, but then also be suitable for weekends. I just had another look at the models and would be happy with most of them.

I will rule out the complicated pieces as i wouldnt want to wear anything so valuable on a daily basis, so i am probably looking for something as an everyday watch and then when the time comes I will be looking for a special occasion watch.

Well... the good news is pretty much every affordable IWC fits those criteria of yours! :-)

I would seriously look at the new pilot series as a start.

Hi Dan,

What is your wrist size? I believe Pilot line of watches range from 41mm to 48mm. You can probably eliminate few watches depending on size of your wrist.

I encourage you to stop by an AD to try on few models.

Just measured and its a very boney 6.75 inch, but my forearms are about 13 inch, so i think should add balance to the bigger models.

This is definitely the fun part, cant wait to own one.

Venturing into the world of IWC is an exciting adventure. Deciding which will be the first, as you say, is the fun part. How very true !

From your comments, I can tell that you are "anxious" to be an IWC owner. But my recommendation is to invest your time with a AD/Boutique and discuss your needs and wants in a quality timepiece. There are so many individual factors involved that will ultimately influence the final decision. Each of us have our ideas of what is a good 1st IWC. Review each "family" in the collection line. Learn what features each model has to offer. Narrow down what models fit within your budget. Ask yourself, "What kind of activities on weekends will I be engaged in ".

This kind of fact finding will help you focus in on the models that will suit your needs. At that point, we members are standing by to give you honest input for comparison purposes. Right now, things are so general, it's hard to determine what direction to send you in.

Of course, this is only my opinion, but with some dedicated time and research in conjunction with your IWC AD, together you will zero in on acquiring your 1st IWC.

Andy ,well said. There are many factors to consider buying your first IWC. But it's a lot of fun too.

Dan, You can check this website with all the pics and infos and especially this forum containing tons of information, facts and opinions.
Then I'd recommend going to an AD (Authorized IWC Dealer) as Andy stated. There you can get further consulting and he will show you the different models and lines. On your wrist they look and feel very different than on the pics.
Take your time to make up your mind if you are the Diver's watch guy or a more puristic Pilot or better want a touch of elegance with a Portofino, Portugieser or DaVinci. Or if the Ingenieur will best suit your style. It of course depends on your budget as well. The AD will give you a copy of the IWC catalog - in fact a very nice book about IWC, the watches, the history, lots of technical information etc. You will dive in and enjoy the world of IWC which in fact is beyond comparison in the world of watches.
My personal recommendations are a Pilot's Chronograph on bracelet. You never go wrong with that or a Portugieser Yacht Club in steel which is very special, versatile, sporty and dressy at the same time - like the Pilot's Chrono.
But that' just me. There are many other watches as well that would make a good start.
Take all the time you need to make up your mind and let us know what your final decision will be.
