The Plastiki will leave for Australia --if it makes it-- in a few days. Here are the first public photos of the finished boat and also David de Rothschild getting ready to embark. from San Francisco.

Over 80 journalists, from through out the world, will be here on Friday to cover this event. The actual christening will be Saturday.

    Regards,
    Michael

    Nice accents

He probably has orange accents on his wrist, and red accents on his shoes: these last ones remind me of most of the new IWC models.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing steel VC Pilot's watch: hey, this one does not have coloured accents

I will always love my Plastiki Ingy, but...

just looking at that contraption I will be totally amazed if he makes it to Australia. He is a more determined person than most. And I hope he proves me wrong. I really do.

The boat appears to be much larger then I thought.

I hope his ecological message will come true...

.. and that he will raise our awareness of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Bon voyage David!

Thanks for the pics and the coverage MF

I can only wish DdR all the best for his upcoming voyage. Australia is not such a bad place- let's hope that he makes it there.

I hope David takes a spare plastic PET bottle...

just in case he needs to plug a leak in the hull.

Hope it is a safe and successful voyage.

    Cheers from the cellar

Thanks MF, and regardless of 80 reporters, and...

probably a lot of PR and Marketing happening on shore, these pictures show such a "low and easy profile", such that they even get me at rest and peace after a busy work week.

Hope that for the overseas ocean voyage it will remain like that for all contributors...
However, I have some concerns about the streamline of the sides of these floaters of the plastiki.

Let's " touch on plastic " for a wonderful end of their journey...

    Ciao, Rob.

actually, the launch may be a few more days...

...and you might be able to catch it. The exact date isn't decided --it depends on the weather-- but it might be Tuesday. Check the local press if you're in San Francisco or the Plastiki website.
