The last time I posted on this forum, life was different....I was a year into a new position with a new company, I was newly engaged, I was In a different home In a different area, yes life was altogether very different. I've lurked here, and posted occasionally on other watch forums, and bought and sold dozens of watches.....

Today I'm enjoying a wonderful marriage, a great job, and an 18 month old son with another due in September. We're In a lovely new home and our lives are very blessed.

Watches have certainly taken a back seat to the obligations of family, but the passion still burns strong...but I must say I haven't been this excited about a watch in.....well....ever....

Prior to the birth of my first son, I set out to purchase a classic, sturdy, iconic time piece to engrave to celebrate our new addition, and to hopefully, when he's old enough to appreciate it, pass it on. The choice was relatively easy, and I brought home a Rolex Sub 114060 and have enjoyed it immensely through countless other pieces owned since. When we learned in January, that we would be having another little one, I couldn't help but secretly hope for another boy, because of course I'd get to celebrate with another timepiece!! Low and behold it was a boy! The search was on!! This time though, it was harder, and for some reason I just couldn't settle on anything. It had to be classic but conservative, beautiful but useful, and worthy of passing on someday. For me, the "Grail" of watches has always been the Big Pilot....5002, 5004, 5009.....any or all of the above were the paradigm in my eyes. I tried on a few during a trip to Chicago recently....but just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger....it was the perfect fit for the occasion, but at 15k it was not meant to be....or was it?

Fast forward a few months, and some serious restructuring in the collection to appease the wife, and it's here!! Never been this exited about a watch!

    And Another passion...

Congratulations on your new child and new BP. I've had the BP on my 'must have' list for a long time and will likely pull the trigger on one in the near future. Your post has certainly pushed me a bit nearer to falling off the fence.

    Iconic !!!

and the right thing to do! Of course, you shall need to set aside a bottle of single malt from the year of each of your sons birth date too - which bottles you open with them individually, the day they turn 21!~

Back to the watch, it's a very handsome timepiece. In the interim, wear it in very good health and enjoy the experience.

Congratulations on your family and on your watch too!
Let's see if your sons share the same taste as you one day. ;-)
BTW: The MacAllan (partly matured in Oak Sherry Casks) is something I like very much too.
I have too sons as well. But I decided not to choose watches for them - anyway what will be their taste, when the time comes?
I'll let themselves decide what they like one day.
