The best IWC pilot’s watch is very subjective.
Aside from the Mark 11 and the B-Uhr I would not have selected any of Michael’s choices, although I would have included the CF Pilot, I own one, if it did not have a date window and the chrono minute totalizer had been limited to 30 or even 15 minutes, and not one hour. But that is me and others will disagree.
I wonder, however, when IWC started referring to them as aviator watches.
Great article! I was surprised at how closely my choices aligned with MF’s. (I have four IWC Pilot’s watches, including the Collector’s Forum pilot’s chronograph [“CF3”], the Big Pilot “CEO/Safari” in titanium (on order), the Petit Prince Perpetual Calendar that MF leans towards for his fifth choice - as well as a Vintage Collection pilot in WG which was itself a tribute to the 1936 Special Watch for Pilots).
Amazing article. The great part of this collection that you have selected is it really captures a variety of components of the IWC brand. Thank you for sharing!
I have to agree with the first three selections: I think MK 11, 3705 ceramic, and CF3 are all no-brainers.
I also think that the fourth selection should be a Big Pilot's watch. My choice would be the platinum 500202 with a blue dial.
My fifth choice would be the Double Chronograph Edition "Le Petit Prince". A charming piece with a playful personality.
I need a BP for sure.
I think so too ;)
