In the late 70th, several IWC models used the C.3254 or similar calibers. Today the most popular one of those models is the YC II Automatic.
This movement is really flat, as you can see in comparison to a 2 Euro coin.

Past, present and future
I must say, I like reasonably flat watches: the two VC Portuguese are my favourites from both the looks and comfort point of view.
I understand that IWC made some really flat movements in the past, for some dressy watches. The movement you show is a perfect example of it. I think, the challenge is to retain quality, robustness with those flat movements, so the question is where you should compromise.
At the moment the hand-wound Jones movements are the only ones made by IWC that are reasonably flat, I consider these movements as the Formula 1 movements: absolutely first class and stripped of everything that is not really necessary.
I would think it to be a good idea of IWC to make a flat rectangle shaped hand-wound movement for a new series of very dressy, elegant flat rectangle shaped watches that are not too big, say 48 by 40 mm. Like the Lange Cabaret, but then very IWC of course. Sometimes you have to try something new, this would be very interesting in my opinion.
