One of the very favorites of my collection. I argue that the DaVinci line represents a special significance to the survival of IWC. The 'renaissance' of fine, complicated watch making was ushered in by Kurt Klaus and the DaVinci....

Vishal's mention of the quill-pen inspired hands got me researching the design background behind the DaVinci.
Here's a link to a fascinating presentation by IWC's then design director Guy Bove about the design inspiration and methodology behind the amazing DaVinci.
Apart from the concave negative curves, unique lugs, and connection to IWC DNA - I did not know the dial engraving was taken from Leonardo Da Vinci's "Study of a clock striking mechanism".
Maligned by some (many?) indeed... but like the man himself, and as IWC says:
"The Da Vinci Family - Always A Little Ahead of Its Time"...
