    Hi,
I have been given a quote for my Mission Earth through an authorized dealer. The cost of the service seems about right, but they have also said that IWC have also quoted an additional cost if I want the glass replacing. They stated that it was to restore the original aspect of the watch. Does this sound right? I didn't see anything wrong with the old glass, but I'm not an expert, so maybe changing the glass is important? Or am I being quoted for something additional, which I dont really need?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Richard,

I'm not a native English speaker.... and I have no clue what they mean with 'aspect'?? I did have glasses replaced on watches during full service in the past. Once because the AR-coating was scratched for example, costed a few hundred euros extra. So if you are not sure it's needed, have your dealer check with the IWC Service Center why it's needed in their professional opinion?

    Kind regards, Bob

    Hello Richard

The crystal replacement used to be offered to me every time I had a complete service done. Most of the time the crystal was just fine with slight scratches in the AR coating that were only really noticeable under magnification. I assumed that the smallest scratch would trigger the offer of a crystal replacement as the goal at IWC after-sales service is to return the watch to you in "like-new" condition. However, the past several times I had service done, crystal replacement was not offered, even though in one case an area of the AR coating had been scraped off. To my surpise, I had to request a quote and then had the crystal replaced for that one. If you hadn't noticed anything wrong with the crystal when you sent it in, I wouldn't spend the extra money replacing it.

    Hello

I too was suprised to be offered the option of paying extra to replace the crystal on my Aquatimer when it was sent in for its first service. The initial report back from the service department said that the AR was "peeling".

I obviously then asked them if it was perfectly normal for the AR coating on an expensive IWC watch to peel after just 3 years.

Needless to say, the crystal looked perfect to my eyes so I said no to the replacement. And to be honest I wasn't that impressed with the whole service experience from IWC (UK) either, but I hope you have better luck.
