Dear Collectors,

some of you have given me great suggestions to my dilemma of not knowing which IWC to add next to my collection (see here)
Yesterday I followed the suggestion you gave me, which was: go to the AD and put the different watches on, go around with them, wait and see which watch selects you.
So I went to the AD, and put the 5001-07 on as well as the Yacht Club white dial.
Here is a pic of me being at the AD and wearing the 5001-07.

And while sitting there and looking at these two wonderful timepieces, the AD left me for a second alone and came back with this wonderful timepiece, saying: "I thought I show you that one. I think it will dress you very well".
Wow, I immediately put it on. What a wonderful timepiece. Understatement. Elegance, Passion. And limited too.

The outcome of it: I am not going to add - at the moment - the Yacht Club to my collection. The decision is now down to the 5001-07 or the Regulateur Platinum. Actually the decision is not which one to add, but which one to add next.
As the Regulateur is limited to 500 I should go first for this one, before someone else grabs it. However, there is also a little price difference between the two.
Let's see what my thoughts during these xmas days are going to tell me.
Wish you all Merry Christmas

Here are your photos!

Both Portuguese models are amazing, and you'll probably end up with both, LOL!!!!!

Have you ever tried ref. 5001-14 wuth golden numerals? I've already had ref 5001-07 and it's great but this last version is a perfect balance between the elegant and casual attitude of the Portuguese - imho.

The regulateur, the regulateur, it's got to be. It's a LE and it's in Plat and looks sheer 100 per cent class and if you can swing it past the bank manager and who ever else has a say in these matters, go for it. And I speak as someone who owns the 5001, which I love but...it's not in the same league.

Quite an interesting addition to the dilemma !

5001-14 - a great suggestion too.

@Nad: thanks for inserting the pics. How did you manage?

@Roberto: nice suggestion. But I don't think golden numerals and hands dress me well.

@Greg: That's quite my thinking at the moment. Just need to find a good way of convincing my wife;-)

Btw, does any of you have experience with the regulateur? when and why did IWC stop production?

Cheers,
Giovanni

Hi Giovanni - love both pics!

Sounds like others are suggesting the LE regulator is the one to go, but I'm biased as I just got myself a 5001-07 few weeks ago and I LOVE the blue dials and strap.

Good luck in your decision, would love to see more detail pics of whichever you decide.

The Regulateur is a rare beauty, I would go for it!

Kind regards,

Giovanni - I'm with Greg, if you can swing the price and get the wife convinced, Christmas would be the perfect excuse to go for the Regulator. They are both excellent choices but that Platinum piece is indeed in a different league.

If you can make it this is a no-contest if you ask me - the only question is which one speaks to you??

What a great Christmas dilemma to have - good luck :o)

Hi Giovanni,

Its a pleasant problem u have in my opinion. I agree with the recommendations above of the 500114, which I am fortunate to have as my first IWC, and a fantastic piece with that clear and classic dial and very versatile design.

I have had recently the opportunity to consider two pieces: the Platinum regulateur u are considering, and also this other piece I would recommend u consider - which may be a suitable third option - the 500104, the platinum portuguese automatic.

Had timing been better on my side, I would have pulled the trigger on the 500104. Also, there may be an issue on availability and pricing which may be important factors when choosing between the platinum regulatuer and the platinum Portuguese Automatic. As commenting more would be outside the permitted parameters of this forum, if u would like to know do feel free to email me.

In any case, whatever decision u make, u can't go wrong :)

Here is my probelm with your post Giovanni. They are both superb watches and as I happen to know your wife, I know too that she wants you really to have both of them!

So, take the Chrsitmas cheer and spirit and go with the regualtor first... it's a teriffic piece.

Best regards
Mark
