I've got a GST Chrono Automatic that I enjoy. But twice I've had an odd problem. The second hand will begin jumping in 5 second increments. Then the watch stops altogether. Once it's stopped there doesn't appear to be a way to restart it. No matter what I do with the stem, I can set the date and time, but I can't re-start the watch.

My Rolex and Tag Heuer can both be wound by hand. Is there something about the 'automatic' movement that requires the watch to be sent to IWC to be started or am I missing something? Any insights would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

It's impossible to diagnose problems on the forum. But, your issue sounds like the GST needs to be returned to IWC for a service call. Take it to your AD. THey will arrange for the service. You cannot send the watch directly to an IWC Service Center personally.

Are you sure it is an automatic movement, and not a quartz movement? The GST 3727 has a quartz movement. The behaviour you describe is very typical for a quartz movement. I have two IWC's with a quartz movement, one of them a titanium GST 3727, that do exactly that: a slow jumping seconds hand at the end of the battery life.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Paul,I think you are correct.
High quality quartz movements have a battery end of life indicator, which is a 4 second jump as opposed to the normal one second interval. It certainly appears that Bikemans watch is doing this.

Yes, I think you fellows are correct. The original poster gave the Reference as 3727-02 which is a meca-quartz model. I believe the automatic, fully mechanical version was Reference 3707-xx.

Bikeman, your watch is a combination of automatic mechanical and quartz. It does sound like the battery needs to be replaced.

I have an opportunity to purchase a IWC GST 3707 Chronograph, I am undecided on
purchasing it as I know nothing about it. The watch is in fine condition and
reasonably priced, has been checked and serviced by my watch maker. Any comments
and information will be greatly appreciated. If I purchase it, I will own 4 IWC
    watches.
