It is such an iconic IWC, it fit's in any collection.

Well, the term SL is not clarified yet.
But this could be a hint:
In 1976 the SL watches catalogue includes exclusively steel watches.
Since 1977 bi-color watches and also the early "Yacht Club II" were added,
focusing on quartz movements.
Until 1977 the Club - and SL models were ONLY equipped with IWC in-house
movements. Later models, like the Ingenieur SL ref. 3003, ref. 3303, Da Vinci
SL ref. 3074 and Yacht Club II quartz, also were equipped with ETA based
quartz movements.
Overviewing these models one might again assume, that the term SL changed
from STEEL LINE to SPORTS LINE.

The picture shows the bicolor 3003 and the "steel-line" 1832. But as far as I
know materials and automatic/quartz exist in all combinations.
Love that watch Tonny, one of the best IWCs ever! Don't like to talk in terms
of 'regret', but I once had the chance to buy one, and I didn't....

Nice job of capturing the texture of the dial. I've heard the dial
texture/pattern referred to as "waffleboard," "tuxedo," and/or "checkerboard."
No matter what you call it, it is unique among IWC pieces and predecessor of
the "herringbone" pattern of the Kurt Klaus DaVinci Perpetuals

Always liked the rounded-corners in the bracelet, i remember the design
showing itself in architecture in the early '70's, the bezel-case-middle
relationship is also pleasing, the design having a shallow fitting across the
3 and 9 positions rising deeper through the 12 and 6 positions...much akin to
gg's earlier offerings for Omega (166.0195)...a groovy aesthetic perfect for
pinching space for a mineral glass .
Presumably mr genta was smitten with the chekerboard dial patterns used in his
UG work in the late fifties....me too (flat black would'nt have created the
greatest of looks)
