    Hello to all,

I work in a consignment shop and we received an old timepiece that I need your help with. Here are the specifics. No crystal. Enamel face reads International Watch Co. in script. Nothing else on face. Hands missing. When I open the outer back it reads K 14 inside a rectangle with scrolled ends. In the center is what appears to be a squirrel facing right. Below the 'K 14' stamp are three numbers 7 5 2. Is this piece 14 karat gold? 18 karat?
The outside of the inner back reads International (in script) Watch Co. (in block) in an arched rectangle. Below is a blank rectangle (for engraving?). The inner back cover has the word METAL, the initials J.F., the numbers 7 5 2, and C5423. The inside of the works is the serial number (?) 2011218 (it may be 2044248) and International Watch Co. in script. Part of the movement is etched and has an arrow and an 'S'. Can anyone help me with it's approximate age and whether or not it's gold? Thank youIt's really hard to get a good picture of the inside of the outer back case! How do I attach pictures? it just asks for a URL. Can't I browse to my SD card?

I'll need to find another image hosting site first. I'm reading that Photobucket sends out a ton of spam. I'll keep looking for a more favorable image hosting site and then get the pictures uploaded. Thanks for the tip. Back soon...

    Hi Pookie,

It is a calibre 47. An Elgin III with hidden wheels.

Hello Devilson1977 and welcome to the forum.
This is a nice cal 52 from around 1901. There are some numbers on the dial that were written or stamped on them after the watch left the factory I believe. Great find with box and papers, love it.

Pookiehead, sadly the watch is in pretty bad shape. Not only has it suffered physical abuse, the movement has over the years been exposed to moisture and there is excessive corrosion on some of the parts.

The dial was forcibly removed resulting in it being bent and the enamel chipping off.

Replacement hands and a dial could be found - but it's debatable if the watch warrants the expense. As we are non-commercial here, I can't point you in the right direction or s state costs etc. Feel free to email me under levi@iae.xx

(Replace xx with the letters nl) and I can advise.
