Hello, I came across a vintage IWC. Would be grateful if fellow members could comment whether the dial looks original or whether it has been restored? Thank you in advance.

It’s difficult to tell from the photo but if has been restored it looks to have been a nice job.
Is it a Cal 83 or 88? It’s not unusual for these watches of this age to have had the dials restored and in my opinion does not materially affect the value if done professionally.
Nice watch.

Thank you Terry. It's a cal.88. Let me try to upload it again.
Hi Redworm,
simply beautiful. This has a very unusual case shape.

Hello Cromagnonman,
Thank you. Would you be able to tell from the photo whether it’s been restored?
Thank you.

Hi Redworm,
the dial looks authentic and not repainted, as I am able to judge - see from the picture.
I am still wondering about the case, have never seen a watch like this from IWC. The inside of the case back would reveal the truth.

Hello Cromagnonman,
Thanks. Yes the case is very unusual. I’ve never seen lugs like that before. Do you think such a case with the lugs ever existed? No photos of inside of the case back.

Schaffhausen used a couple of case designs of this stamp..more usually in late '40's c.89's.
One that looked remarkably like this highlighted case with flat sides ( if untouched) that shown the dovetailing into the main case...the other was slightly stylised.
The dial is re-done unfortunately
Why unfortunately?
Hello Catherine,
Thank you for the sharing the information confirming the case design and also the re-done dial.
Yes, it’s unfortunate that the dial has been re-done because I like case design.
I’ll have to give the watch a miss then.
Thanks again Catherine. Much appreciated.

*Flat sides to the lug ( not the main case) almost like a domed top loaf being sliced length ways...for want of a better description.
Hello again Catherine,
Sorry, do you mean to say that the authenticity of the case of this watch in the photo is also questionable?
Thanks.
Best,
Redworm
No...i was trying to describe the lug profile on the watch you highlighted, which isnt so apparent from the pic's you depicted. Sorry for the confusion.
Oh I see. Thank you Catherine. Much appreciated.
Best,
