Thomas, it's probably a Cal.89 based timepiece.
However without seeing a photo of the movement we can't really tell you for sure. Either way, the watch appears genuine and the case is gold - probably 18k (but again it needs to be opened by a competent watchmaker so we can see photos of the inside case back and the movement).
The watch should also be services card by a competent watchmaker.
If it's a family heirloom, then consider to send it back to Schaffhausen for a full service. Not cheap - but certainly worthwhile.

Sorry to contradict you, the watch is marked AUTOMATIC, so it cannot be Cal 89. It is more likely to be Cal 401.
Both caliber 89 and 401 is manual winding movements.
It is probably caliber 852, 853 or 854 depending on what year it is from.
I would guess 852 or 853, not sure about the reference number.
