Good afternoon, I have a very old IWC movement — a Caliber 83. I would like to know where I could buy parts to restore it, and if anyone can help me find more information about the watch, such as the original case, the strap color, etc. The serial number is: 1102103

    Hi Bruno,

Your Caliber 83 movement was manufactured in 1945. There is no simple answer to your question of where you can get spare parts. There are parts in stock at the IWC factory, but they are not sold to the public. If you want a complete restoration, you will have to send in the complete watch. Since you don't have a case, they probably won't accept the movement. The only option is to look for or buy the missing parts on the known online platforms. I think this will be a costly endeavor. The cost of the restoration will not be covered by the market value of the restored watch.

Hello Bruno...the other option if you have acquired the mvmnt for cheaps..is to treat yourself to a nice untouched c.83 and box and place the movement in the box for future donor transplants

Hello, Cromagnonman. Thank you for your help. I Understand, based in all the research that i've done so far, that this will not be an easy task. But in any case i would love to restore the piece. From my understanding the most challenging part it would be to aquire the case. That would turn the piece in what we can call more likely a watch. Do you have any clues where to find old IWC cases, that might fit this specific movement?

    Thank you very much!

Hi Catherine, how are you? Thank you for your answer. In fact the movement was given to me by mo father in law, and i would love to get it back to original condition. Cost Vs Market Value is not a problem, because i have no intentions of selling or getting money out of the deal. If you have any idea on how to find a suitable case, it would be great.

    thank you and regards,

    Bruno

    Hi Bruno,

any Cal. 83 donor watch would be suitable. You can find them on well-known online auction platforms.

Even if it sends a shiver down my spine to recommend this, the result would be a Frankenwatch like Frankenstein's monster.

But that's probably the only way to give your movement a second life as a watch.
