    Hello!

I'm new to the forums and also new to watch collecting in general. I got into it recently after buying a vintage time piece at a yard sale and wearing it and getting lots of compliments, since then I've been hooked but I still have a lot to learn!

I recently found this vintage IWC watch at an estate sale and I don't know anything about it. I've tried to research it but have found many different watches IWC made that are similar, so it's been confusing for a novice like me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Itsabouttime,

very nice watch in an absolute special and rare case. The movement is a Cal. 60 or 61. This comes with a center seconds hand, which is missing on your watch. The case has been discussed in an earlier thread on this forum.

    Hi,

search for the keyword „obscure“ and you will find a thead from nelson. The answer from Terry shows a two watches with a very similar case design.

Hey, thank you for your reply!

Are you talking about this post?

He says they're C83 cases. I haven't been able to find anything online with that number pattern with the Arabic numerals for every hour.

You mentioned the missing seconds hand. I see in Terry's post in shows those watches have the center seconds hand, but my case doesn't appear to ever have had one. Do you think it just never did or that it was removed at some point?

    Thanks for your insight!

    Hi Itsabouttime,

yes that is the correct thread.

Your watch comes with a movement of calibre 60 that was produces in 1944. The case was produced an delivered in 1945. Cal. 60 is a center second movement, in contrast to Cal. 83 (Terry‘s Images) wich has an auxillary second. The center seconds hand on your watch got lost, but can be replaced rather easy.

    Hey,

welcome to the forums! That’s such a cool way to get into watch collecting—yard sale finds with real character are the best. I totally get how overwhelming vintage IWC models can be; there are so many variations. Just take your time, ask questions, and enjoy the journey—you're already off to a great start!
