    Hi all,

This is my first time posting.  I am a watchmaker and have been an IWC fan for a long time.  I own the Big Pilot "le petit prince" but also this vintage piece that I'm about to restore for myself.  I love the Big Pilot but sometimes I like mixing it up by wearing a smaller watch.   I'm wondering if anyone could provide any information about its age or any other details etc?

    Thanks in advance.

It seems to me, that the watch shown needs quite an extensive service job: IWC does this kind of a job, here called a spa, quite well, the watch looks and functions like new, at some cost and elapse time. I am not quite sure a watchmaker can achieve that same result.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

It does.  I'm in the process of making new bushes for the barrel and centre wheel.  I will flat polish all of the screws.  I'm not going to polish the exterior of the case but will attend to the corroded areas.  Just because I like having my watches unpolished.
Would you be able to provide any historical informatiuon or model ref numbers?

    Kind regards,
    Michael

No, I don't know much about vintage watches. But others can provide information on it when having the case number and the movement number. The former is visible on the picture of the case back, the latter is not visible on your picture, it would help if you could show this here. Good luck with your restauration job!

    Kind regards,
    Paul

A movement number would help dating the watch. The case number suggests that the case was produced around 1963. The movement type 853 was produced between 1958 and 1963. I think a qualified guess to date your watch therefore would be: 1962-1963.
Good luck with your work. It would be interesting to see a couple of pictures of the finished movement.

Thank you, Paul.  For anyone that can get information, the movement serial number is 1634850.
