I was born in Zürich so I've seen watches and cameras all of my life, but my fascination began when I was contracted to shoot watch catalogs in the 1980's.
documenting the extraordinary sculptural beauty and elegance of a watch is not unlike a beauty photograph of a person.

It is very much related to living a simple life. My fascination with mechanical watches related to my desire and satisfaction for driving a car with a manual transmission. They are one and the same.

When I was 13 years old my father gave me his swiss-made, mechanical watch. Since then, I ve been facinated by the durability, design and quality of a mechanical watch. Most of all they never outdated. Then as a young working man,I was able to purchase watches of many different brands. Today I ve decided to narrow my collection to one brand, IWC.

I recently divorced and wanted to get rid of my old gold wedding band. I took it to a gold and coin buyer and found this watch there. I loved it but had no idea what it was or where it was made. I just thought it was really beautiful in its detailing. So I traded my old band for this watch. Anyone have more information on it. From some early scanning of this site I believe it was released in Vienna in the 20's??? I haven't seen any other of the IWC watches just like it. Wondering how much it is worth. I hope it was a good trade.

A couple of years ago my son became interested in mechanical watches. He lusted after a Omega Planet Ocean. I bought him one along with a Seamaster 300m gmt.

I've always liked gadgets and had a mechanical watch as a teen in the 60's. In researching the Omega purchase, I started reading websites voraciously.

My next significant purchase was a Seiko Springdrive Ananta.

Last week I got what's become my 'Grail Watch', the 3717 Pilot Chrono.

I have to admit was attracted to Portofinos as well, but I really like the traditional (not Spitfire) chrono.

I first became fascinated with mechanical watches
when my father gave me his old Bulova (I was 10
years-old; about 100 years ago!). Since then I
have owned scores of watches, and not one has
been quartz or digital. Even during the "Quartz Crisis"
I wore mechanical Rolexes and Omegas.

My friends really don't believe me when I tell them
that every watch I've ever worn -- for the last 50 years --
has been mechanical. But it is true, my hand to God.

I got my first good Swiss timepiece (Omega Seamster 2254.5000) in early 2008, and have owned around 200 since then.

So i'm hooked on good automatic brands. I've had 3 IWC Aquatimer, and have a Aquatimer 3568 incoming.

I have also owned: 3 Panarai Submersible - 2 Rolex Submariner - and a lot of other divers.

Currently I own a Omega Planet Ocean and a Breitling Seawolf Steel.

Hi!! This is my first time in forum!! I'm owner of Aquatimer, I'm lucky to bought my first IWC watch at IWC boutique in Schaffhausen. I like the mechanical watch, it's because that included many little pieces and the history, It's like art!

I admired my fathers 1953 slimline rolex for many years through boyhood and at that time had inferior time pieces saying one day I will have a decent watch! I now have this Rolex watch after he passed away and have also added my own rolex (gift from wife), and several other time pieces. The pride of my collection is the IWC Dopplechronograph with a stainless steel strap. I have owned the IWC for some 6 - 7 years now it has never let me down and keeps wonderful time. The mechanical movement is remarkable and as I use it daily it has collected some very minor scratches. I purchased the watch from Wempe in Dresden Germany. I would like to add a further IWC but I will have to keep that aspiartion away from my wife.

My impatience and youthful ambition I suppose have cemented very early on in my life that Time is one of the most valuable things on this earth. Having had the opportunity to travel considerably for work and leisure brought me to my first luxury timepiece - a Baume et Mercier Capeland GMT Alarm.

Being able to measure time on an automatic watch is a true joy. My habit (frequented by many people, including a boss) of looking at my timepiece every 20 minutes I suppose also helped to culminate my now love for mechanical watches. A quest for perfection, a quest for ideal efficiency, a quest for success, a quest for that joy in life - happiness !

To be perfectly honest, replica mechanical watches that were given to me by my parents when I was in middle school started my fascination of horology. I took them apart and tried to understand mechanical watch's structure on my own. That experience put me into quest for searching a 'real' mechanical watch that will last a lifetime.
