HOW DID YOUR FASCINATION FOR MECHANICAL WATCHES START?

To be perfectly honest, replica mechanical watches that were given to me by my parents when I was in middle school started my fascination of horology. I took them apart and tried to understand mechanical watch's structure on my own. That experience put me into quest for searching a 'real' mechanical watch that will last a lifetime.

I inherited this from my grandfather. The model type and/or year of manufacture are unknown to me. Would someone know?

They say that the watch you wear determines your personality. I've been into watches since I was a little boy. My very first mechanical watch was that of an automatic Mickey Mouse watch given to me by my uncle when I was 7. I have been fascinated by how the gears of the watch works. It had taken me so long to save up for an IWC watch. I spent countless days looking at different pictures of IWCs. Now, I finally own one, a Pilot Chronograph. I hope it won't stop there and I hope I get to own one of the Portuese Tourbillion.

My fascination for watches started when i was young.
My father has always liked watches and also bought med watches, no really expensive onces for either him self or me, but nice watches,(seiko,tissot, vintage handwound zenith and omega).
I think it was the handwound zenith my father bought when i got my faschination, i was 6-7 years old then.

My first mechanical watch that i saved money for was an breitling seawolf
when i was on vacation in new york 2008, i had it for little over 2years, then i sold it, i had started to unlike the look of breitling and to get more money for my own birthday present, It was a 30 year birthday present for me self, a Omega seamaster planet ocean xl, i bought it from my local ad here in sweden.
And today i bought a iwc 371701, a watch i have looked for a long time.

I can't even remember when I became interested in the precision art of mechanical timepieces. I do recall as a youth trying to take them apart, which I managed to do! HOWEVER it was the reassembly, I never quite got worked out. Henceforth, I leave watch making to the professionals and just appreciate their
mastery...

I picked up an old casio automatic divers watch at a swap meet. I was mesmerized by the sweeping hand. That was over 20 years ago. I started reading about watches and quickly discovered that I had no knowledge at all. Since then, I have subscribed to countless magasines. I currently owe a Rolex Submariner, a Breitling 1884, a Baume et Mercier automatic chronograph, an IWC vintage mechanichal, an Eterna slim automatic.

Just a keen interest in items of style and perfection!

Traveling from australia by ocean liner as a child my father purchased IWC on a stop in singapore from that moment I fell in love with the brand and have owned many enjoying every one : 0

Hello everybody, one year ago I decided to buy a great watch.I have a tag heuer since 23 years and wanted to change but what a mistake !!
Since one year I have so many problems with my iwc aquatimer 3538 and the dealer and aftersales service in switzerland don't accept the garranty even with the bill !! Can you believe that ?

Ok I've bought the watch on the web ( with box, garranty, bill etc ) but is it a good reason to refuse the international garranty ?

My conclusion is that I wear my TAG HEUER again and leave my expernsive and bad quality IWC in the box.

My advice will be ' think about it if you want to buy a watch, don't trust the adverts...' and read the forums on the web !!

I bought my first watch when i was around 10 years old. A black plastic digital quartz Seiko. I was very proud of it. Later I got the steel digital Quartz Seiko of my dad. When I was 12 I bought a Citizen watch with a black leather strap. I bought it form my first holliday job.
When I was 17 I got nice Pulsar chrono from my uncle. He was a jeweler. He always wore an IWC watch and I was very very curious about that watch.
I knew that IWC was top of the bill. After that I bought my first expensive watch. It was a Festina Divers watch. It came in a wooden box with an extra leather strap. A few years later I got the first Tissot T-touch as a gift from my wife. I was very interested in watches but I could not afford a mechanical watch at that time. I dreamed of Breitling and IWC, but lightning struck me when I saw Panerai for the first time. One year ago after some difficult times, a divorce and a new love, I pulled the tricker on a Panerai 312. That watch has a special meaning for me. In December I bought another Panerai. The logo or zero as it is called. A great watch also. A few weeks ago I finally could realize one of my dream watches. I purchased one of the greatest watches IWC ever made (imho). A big Pilot 500401. A stunning watch!
This is the start of my watch fascination in a nutshell.

I've always been interested in mechanical things and especially those of sheer quality and understated beauty. Only in recent years have I been able to afford an IWC, but now I have 4. The only problem now is which one to wear and when ?

Way back in the year 1999, a former colleague of mine told me about his enthusiasm for mechanical watches. He preferred Jaeger LeCoultre, but I could only afford a Chronometer by Mühle (Nautische Instrumente) from Glashütte.
Last Tuesday, my wife and me visited Schaffhausen, on our way to a city break in Zürich, because for a long time I was looking forward to purchase an IWC !
Finally, after returning back to our home city Stuttgart, I bought the Pilot's Chronograph (steel with a steel wristband).
It is a wonderful watch and I am very happy with it!!!

hi there, i am new here and found this forum about 3 months sgo, benefited from many of you for mechanism ( though i am not very good into this area) and history. lately bought a gst perpectual ( preowned). i guess people love the design especially the latest like perpectual stainless steel ( limited edition come with orange dial etc).
