Got this wonderful piece from my wife lately.  My first vintage IWC. Case:1540446, movement: 1530663.
From what I can find it looks to be a 14 carat gold caliber 853-ish dress watch from the late 50's.  Can anyone offer a more precise identification?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jakob,
the movement is a Cal. 853 that has been produced in 1960. Very nice watch in good condition, 14 k gold cases are pretty rare. IWC mostly used 18k gold and when it should be something more "economy" 18k gold case with a stainless steel back was used. Te winding crown looks somehow that it was replaced somedays, does it have the fish logo on it ?

    Hi Cromagnonman,
Many thanks for your very kind assistance.
Yes, it does seems that the winding crown has been replaced.  The one that sits on it has no fish logo on top, and has a more traditional shape.  While it is only a minor distraction, I do consider having it replaced with an original IWC crown.

    Hi,
I have recently inherited this watch from my father who left me his IWC Mark XV (15). however after looking at photos of mark xv's I'm not sure whether it is real or not. Please, can someone help me with basic authenticity or what model it is if not?
    Thanks,

    Hi Henrik,

This is definitely not a genuine IWC. This is a converted pocket watch. The movement might be from an IWC pocket watch, but as a wristwatch it unfortunately has no value at all.

    Best regards from another Henrik
