    Hello.
I recently acquired this old watch which belonged to my great grandfather. I have no idea if it is a genuine IWC. I really want to know the year the watch was made, and also if it has any value what so ever. I would appreciate any help.

    Thanks in advance.

There really is not anything more to show on the watch itself, as the back has no writing on it.

    Hello,
from what i see(mainly Case and Dial), i would propose Watch from the late sixties to the early seventies. Could be a calibre 854. Yes it is one classic IWC Automatic which is valuable.
The Case seems to be in pretty good shape, the crystal looks pretty worn and could be polished or need a replacement.

    Keep it in good shape

    Hi Annalorem
Before going through the process of analyzing this Cal 89, I would like some background.....

Is this a watch you own or are you considering its purchase?

    @annalorem

Interesting would also be to see the inside of the back cover.
The dial is somehow stuipid. The double dots for the hour seems to come from
a repainting on a dial which had already dots.
The case is so shiny, it could be new.

Here are some more, and hopefully helpful, images of the inside of the watch.

Sorry, my comment was for the other watch.

This one looks from the originality quite well.
The Ref 810 is quite common.
The watch can be dated to approx. 1968.
The movement is a c.854, a very good movement.

The shape of the watch is not the best, but a SPA in Schaffhausen brings it back to good shape. The only small problem is, the SPA can cost more than the half value of the watch.

Thank you for your reply and information. Would you have sent it to Switzerland for an overhaul? Can you say anything on how much the watch is worth?

Ref. 810 are relatively common, and always found on the market. Relative to most other automatic references, they do not have particularly high value. Were you to send it to IWC for a complete overhaul, the cost would likely exceed that of the cost of a ref. 810 in very good or better condition.

In other words, I would not send it to Schaffhausen for an overhaul, as the intrinsic value of the watch arguably does not warrant such an expenditure.

The only possible exception would be if it was passed down from a family member, or had sentimental value for some other reason.

    Regards,

    Tony C.
