This watch (dia 25.5 of the case) has a caliber that is smaller than c89 and
i can find the numer 42 under the balance. But that caliber number does not
exist. It probably is a 421? serial number is 1288641, case 1404009. It should
be from around 1957. Identification problem is that this watch has a subsecond
and not a sweep second like c421. Who can
    help?

    Hi Eddy,

whow, that is quite a rare bird that you show here. It is in fact a Cal. 42
the movement dates to 1952. The movement was only produced in a very small
nuber of just 1800pcs. I found it in the IWC Caliber Index published in WATCH
3 form the year 2001. See image below.

Thanks Cromagnonman for providing the solution to a vexing question. I looked
up the serial number and it revealed a Cal 421 which did not fit the
description. Ranfft does not have an entry for 421, only 41 and 422, which
    didn't fit either.

I hope the OP now posts a pic of the front view of this very rare piece!

Thank you for your kind reactions. Here are some pictures of the front. The
crown has a also a nice fish. The dial is not a very nice example of patina,
probably some humidity issues between 4 and 5. I bought it on the internet
without knowing the mechanism because my hope was to find a caliber 62 inside.
I already have two other c62 watches and like its quality. I collect vintage
Omega but quality of IWC for that period is better. It is a C421 from the
serial number but then it should have a central second and this watch has a
    subsecond.
