Can anybody help me to identify my IWC watch? My grandfather gave this IWC to me and I did some research on the internet which model/edition etc. it is - but I did not found this specific watch. My watch dealer had a rough guess that it is around 20-30 years old. I would be very happy if anybody can help me.

Hello Nicol and welcome. It looks like you have a Portofino chronograph, reference # 3731. 20-30 years old sounds correct. That's about all I can tell you - hope that helps!

The famous french chef at Le Manoir near Oxford, Raymond Blanc, has one, often seen during his cookery demonstrations on UK TV. A beautiful watch!

I have never seen this model before. It is quite beautiful. How does the date indicator work?

It is indeed the ref. 3731, the Portofino mecaquartz, cal 631, last year of production was 1996.
    Case is 35mm.
The date is shown between the two indexes, these jump every day to the new date.

Hey Mark! Like Tonny said it is the Portofino ref 3731. It was produced form 1988 till 1996. It has a 631-caliber movement, which combined traditionally mechanical features with those of the quartz era. The watch consits of 233 parts and the height of the movement is 3.8mm. The case is 35mm in diameter like mentioned in the comments before. It was powered by twin quartz motors for the time display and chronograph movement. It has a date fork running round the dial.

Information from the IWC book " The Portofino collection from Shaffhausen"

Hope this will help a bit :)
