Identifying a fake pilots watch

Good afternoon all, this is my first post here as I've only recently
discovered my interest in watches and started collecting.

One of the watches on my wish list is a pilots watch (I know there are several
variations) but having stumbled across this one I am convinced it is not quite
right. For one the day and date windows are almost always black with white
writing on the watches I have seen so far, also as much as I love the red
plane detail on the second hand am I right to assume that this belongs to the
Top Gun editions, of which this is not? Finally, without knowing exactly what
the movement should look like, this does not feel right having the large
plastic surround and no fantastic detail, but this may well be my assumption
only.

the number 2345678 is used by IWC in catalogues and pics they publish..

Fake watches mostly copy the watch and in this case also the FAKE number..

I wondered about the number, that makes perfect sense! Is the movement just a
small one packed out to fit with the plastic? I can't imagine genuine ones
being any smaller than they have to be.

but you should not be bothered with the inside of this "watch" anymore..

Safe aproximately €3500,- and buy a second hand AT chrono24 is my advice

I agree and will not be buying this watch, but the point of asking the
questions was so I can identify a fake in the future, as you cannot rely on
the price to tell if a watch is genuine or not!

I have picked up a lot of info on what to look for on certain Rolex models,
but as explained am new to IWC.

You are totally right that asking is part of learning. However, getting no
answer is also part of learning. We do not want to give you a list of the
wrong details on this watch because we do not want to teach the cheaters. Who
knows if you are one of them and try to improve your fake watches?

There is one very easy way to be sure not to buy a fake watch: Go and buy from
an authorised IWC dealer or a Boutique. Because at the end it is quite simple:
If the price of a watch is too good to be true, it's most probably a fake. And
if the price is in the same ballpark as the real IWC watch, why not just buy
from an official sales point?
