Dear Collectors and friends of IWC,

In the past years IWC has evolved into a global brand. Besides our sustainable strategy and successful product innovations this was mostly possible because we have adapted to global market changes and focused on the needs of our international customers. In the scope of this philosophy we have decided to concentrate our forum activities on English and will therefore discontinue the German forum. The reason is primarily based on the relevance of the English language and our goal to offer customers the best content around the IWC universe.

We would like to thank the community of the German forum for their great support in the past years and invite them to participate on the English forum in the future. Most importantly we would like to thank Alexander Linz, who not only supported IWC for more than 10 years but also helped to shape the community.

I'm not sure how to interpret the news. Diversity is unquestionably a richness and German collectors gave an incredible contribution to the forum.

I believe it will be a great challenge dear IWC, to make this fusion go wonderfully smooth but maybe is also our responsibility to make the German fellows feel like home.

So, from the poorest forumer of this side, Welcome dear German forumers! Your contributions will enormously enrich our discussions about IWC.

I join my compañero Roberto in welcoming our German-speaking friends to the English IWC Forum. I've always enjoyed the posts of many of you who already participate here from time to time, and I look forward to "meeting" new friends!

I wrote in both of them ,English and German, but what shall I do now ? Only English? For me is the same ,but I think there are a lot of people who could not understand nor write good English. Best wishes from Spain Juan Fernandez Vargas

Hello and thank you for the warm words of welcome.

Regarding our (Germans) future on the forum, I want to catch up and officially say HELLO to everybody - although I am already active on the english forum from time to time.

My name is Christoph, I am from the south of Germany ... and of course, I have already visited IWC in Schaffhausen :-)

Closing the English forum would have been a disaster for me. If there any German forum members whose English is poor or nil then I am sure they are pretty unhappy. Given the distance from factory to the border, the vernacular language of the factory and IWC history in German speaking markets I find this decision odd to say the least.
There is no mention of the establishment of a Chinese website or forum that I have missed is there????

I stand by Roberto just to say a warm welcome to all German speaking Forum friends.

You are right Greg - I also miss that part of the statement.

For everyone´s information - in the statement on the German forum is also mentioned, that IWC wants additionally concentrate on a Chinese forum.

Yes, welcome to the German speaking and writing forum members, welcome to all the IWC enthousiasts in the world. In a way I expected the closing down of the German forum for a while, but the harsh reality is a surprise nonetheless: it is not even possible to post a message over there right now.

For several years I was an avid writer on the German forum, because IWC, being a particular German-Swiss watch company - there are not that many - made it the right thing to do. In those days I even chose a German dial for the Portuguese Perpetual Calendar. Later I switched to the English forum, because of the world scope, and because sometimes the discussions on the German forum were not all that pleasant.

I liked the kind of laid-back style of moderating of Alexander Linz, so fitting to the expression free style of argumentation we are used to in Europe. So, thank you very much, Alexander! The stricter style of moderating of the English/American forum will ask something of the adaptation skills of some Europeans. But maybe that is one of the consequenses of globalisation.

Let's have a lot of fun together here at this IWC forum!

Das sind ganz traurige Neuigkeiten! Als deutschsprachige Manufaktur alles nur noch auf Englisch und Chinesisch anzubieten, finde ich ein Armutszeugnis. Traurig, traurig. Günter Blümlein würde sich im Grabe umdrehen, arme IWC!

Hallo liebe IWC,
ich bin doch schon ziemlich überrascht und auch ein klein wenig entsetzt, in welcher Weise hier kommuniziert wird und Tatsachen geschaffen werden.
Mit der Information über die Veränderung ist sofort das Einstellen von Beiträgen unterbunden worden. Es gibt somit keine Möglichkeit des Austausches im deutschen Forum, da es keine Karenzzeit gibt.
Dies ist auch der Grund, weshalb ich jetzt das englische Forum nutze. Ich habe das deutsche Forum immer gerne genutzt, weniger mit aktiven Beiträgen, umso mehr mit interessiertem Lesen (täglicher Teilnehmer). Ich hatte die Vorstellung, dass es genug deutschsprachige Kunden gibt, um das Forum nicht im Bestand zu gefährden, zumal der IT-Aufwand durch die bereits bestehende Infrastruktur nicht sehr hoch sein dürfte.
Was mich aber stört, ist die ausschließlich marketinggesteuerte Entscheidung, die nichts mit den besonderen und fantastischen Produkten, nämlich den Uhren und den Beziehungen, die die Käufer dazu aufbauen, zu tun hat.
Das übliche Spiel ist immer strategische Gründe vorzuschieben. Es ist sicherlich bekannt, dass strategische Ausrichtungen einen langfristigen Zeithorizont für ihre Umsetzung benötigen; da ist es dann um so verwunderlicher, dass die IWC noch am 2.5.11 im Forum berichtet, dass an individuellen Sprachlösungen für deutsch und chinesisch gearbeitet wird. Vier Monate später wird das deutsche Forum eingestellt. Das hat für mich nichts mit fundierter Strategie zu tun, insbesondere im Bereich der Luxusgüterindustrie hätte ich mehr Substanz und Kontinuität erwartet.
Ich werde mir jedenfalls überlegen, ob ich mit der in Kürze bei mir anstehenden Neuanschaffung die Marke IWC weiterhin unterstützen werde.
Ich bedanke mich für die Aufmerksamkeit und die Nutzung des englischen Forums.
Sollte ich mich weiterhin beteiligen, werde ich mein vorhandenes Englisch bemühen und die Beiträge entsprechend verfassen.
Vielen Dank auch an die Forumsmitglieder und insbesondere Alexander Linz für die gute Moderation und die kompetenten Beiträge.
