Change is the only constant: I believe that, and in most cases the application of this axiom is hard because change is inconvenient, removes us from our comfort zone, renders the future uncertain: as is the case here. I extend my sympathies with sadness to the german forum members. I would be very sad if this happened to the english forum.
I also believe in the general goodness in people to make things work and the natural instinct towards progress that is the hallmark of human civilization. Rough fits are often accommodated and edges dulled with time. So I choose to focus on the way forward, the good that can come from this change, and welcome the new members ! Shiny, I agree with you wholeheartedly. There is much to be learned on this Forum and I am confident that everyone can be absorbed into the mix. But I certainly understand that some will be unhappy with this turn of events.
Shing, normally I agreed with you. But in this special case I do not. This decision of IWC seems to be a loss of the roots, the identity. None of the champions within their branches would ever do that. Can you imagine Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Miele, Siemens, Bosch to turn off their German websites? Never!
Erst wurde ein Forum-Update mit E-Mail-Funktion und weiteren Verbesserungen angekündigt und jetzt wird das deutsche Forum Knall auf Fall abgestellt. Auch wenn ich in den letzten Monaten praktisch nur noch mitgelesen habe, verlasse ich dieses Forum mehr mit einem weinenden, als mit einem lachenden Auge.
Bedanken möchte ich mich ganz herzlich bei IWC für 10 Jahre deutsches Forum und die unvergesslichen Treffen in Schaffhausen, Genf und Dübendorf. Danke an AL für die umsichtige Moderation.
Mein letzter und spezieller Dank gilt allen Forummitglieder, die ich in den letzten Jahren persönlich kennenlernen und mit denen ich auch ausserhalb des Forums über IWC fachsimpeln durfte.
Erwähnen möchte ich Charles, Angst, Hans, Nihil, Franz und Harald, sie waren (wenn auch nicht immer) das Salz in der Suppe.
Dies war mein letzter Beitrag, es gibt auch ein Leben ohne IWC-Forum, egal ob in deutscher, englischer oder chinesischer Sprache.
closing a forum is one thing, to whisk us away in such a manner is another. It's rude and impolite . . . at least! I read the "news" today and was wondering why there were zero replies . . . until I learned: replies are impossible and unwanted! Really, guys, I was speechless! And I wondered: what will come next. I let my imagination run wild and came across some strange ideas, like - no WATCH INTERNATIONAL in German anymore - some day the production will move to China - IWC will become "Invented Within China" - new employees must speak Chinese, knowledge of watches could be neclected
and many more like this. The main reason that I will go on are the people I met regardless of their language and origin and the friends I found due on both forums. It is not because of the brand which is not the same as it was when I fell in love with it. Actually I didn't want to commentate this event which is another step away from the roots. Actually I am speechless . . . actually
Ich hatte die gleichen Gedanken wie der Kieler Jung und S4. Es ist sicher nicht die feine englische bzw. schweizer Art, das Forum einfach abzudrehen, ohne die Möglichkeit eines Dankes oder einer Verabschiedung zu geben. Dies bezieht sich insbesonders auf unseren Moderator AL. Ich werde weiter hier auf Deutsch schreiben, bin aber überzeugt davon, dass MF das nicht zulassen wird. Ich fahre jetzt nach Italien und werde mich mit Valpolicella, aber besonders mit dem überaus köstlichen Amarone trösten. Lebewohl deutschsprachiges Forum und liebe Grüße an Alexander.
As a Swiss citizen I'm quit shocked about IWC's decision to close the German Forum. My English is not that good to understand all the technical writing so I learned and enjoyed reading both of them on a daily basis. I also would like to thank Alexander Linz for his fabulous work he has done over the last years. I enjoined a lot searching old articles since I'm a great fan of IWC and its virus. Which was true, it started with a Portofino - but to feel the movement on the wrist made me be a collector! There is not a single day, I've check out models and information's about IWC. I even had – well likewise earlier mention as a Swiss more easy as for other members – the great opportunity to visit the museum and the factory in Schaffhausen. Well to close up, I – Daniel - say hello to the English speaker forum and to Michael Friedberg officially and look already forward to see great pictures and stories around the world of IWC Fan's.
Wow wow wow, I haven't logged in for the past 18 hours and what a brand new beginning for IWC forum members, adding a diversity of German forum members to the English one. Welcome to the English forum and the forum can only get better with a more voices and greater sharing.
Let's focus on the objective of this forum which is to embrace the goodness of the brand, share ideas, knowledge and expertise with one another and most importantly, enjoy the good friendship that emerge as a result of contributing to this forum...
es wird nicht lange dauern und der Moderator wird die konsequent auf deutsch geposteten Beiträge löschen. Er war da ja schon immer etwas rigoroser als AL.
Hätte meine 3717 nicht den 25.08. angezeigt, würde ich meinen, wir hätten den 01. April.
Als Marke seine Muttersprache zu verleugnen... Sorry, das ist so was von jämmerlich.

Genauso ging es mir auch :=) Bei mir war's die 3706 - also ziemlich verwandt! Mann, bis ich draufgekommen bin, WARUM keiner auf die "Important Information" geantwortet hat . . . .

Well I must say I am more than surprised the way how IWC handled the chance/closure of the German Forum. In my opinion not a very wise decision to give no pre announcement and possiblity to say thanks to the german moderator.
Dear AL thanks for your assistance and help given to the members of ther German Forum.
Let us hope that IWC will not force us to learn Mandarin and that the English speaking forum will last long enough.
I wish MF a good hand in handling the big forum - and also hope that a big variety of views regarding IWC is accepted.

2009 teilte uns George Kern auf unsere Fragen mit, dass es "aktuell" keine Absicht gäbe, das deutschsprachige Forum zu schließen, im Gegenteil, es würde eine neue Forumssoftware in Aussicht genommen.
Genau diese Art von Aussagen bin ich seit Jahren von Politikern gewöhnt und ich dachte damals schon, dass es das deutschsprachige Forum nicht mehr lange geben würde.Quod errat demonstrandum...
Das Forum zu schließen ist eine Entscheidung der IWC, die man schlicht und einfach zur Kenntnis zu nehmen hat, darüber zu diskutieren ist müßig.
Die Art allerdings, wie das Forum abgedreht wurde, ist sehr wohl zu hinterfragen. Meiner bescheidenen Meinung nach wäre es guter Stil gewesen, einen Tag festzusetzen, bis zu dem die Mitglieder des Forum Gelegenheit haben, sich vom Forum zu verabschieden. So wirkt das wie ein Fußtritt.
Wie auch immer, ich danke vor allem AL für die gemeinsame Zeit und den Stil, mit dem er "unser" Forum moderiert hat.
