It's almost a week, just a few hours after I touched down from Hong Kong, when I picked up my CFDV. There's at least one in the UK for CFDV watchers.
My first response on seeing the watch with in the watch at SIHH a few years ago was this device could be used as a GMT, second timezone, watch. I was impressed by the Da Vinci but not enough to take the plunge. It's a bit like Marmite: you do or you don't like it.
The pull of the Forum for me was enough to take the plunge. I wanted the second CF so I suspended certain prejudices against the Da Vinci.
I collected the watch last Saturday. Set the chrono at noon (a few seconds fast to allow for quick setting of the watch when I moved into another timezone). On Sunday, I settled down into my seat on the BA flight to Boston, moved the watch back 5 hours while the chrono subdial showed London time. After 4 days, the CFDV has kept very good time, despite the chrono has been running at the same time. No doubt some Forumers will respond along the lines of amplitude and this is really, really bad for chronos. Nonsense.
So the watch has done what I thought it would do. The crazy thing is I think the design is fantastic and a refreshing change from those circular things we've always strapped to our wrists. The quality, case construction, and bracelet is the best Schaffhausen produces. If there are any left, snap 'em up.
