I am so happy that finally this ref 5503 arrived in the collection.
It was in the catalogues until 1998/1999.
I saw a price in 1992 : 23900 DM.
To compare, the 3741 in steel came at 2900 DM, the 3741 in gold came at 10500
DM.
The 5503 was a limited edition of 1000. I wonder if all were made.
It was a pocketwatch with calendar function.
It has the cal 9721 inside a heavy sterling silver case.
What a beautiful pocketwatch! Congratiolations Tonny, for finding that gem

I don't doubt at all that not all 1000 were made. It seems many times during
this period, and for expensive watches like this, many less were made than the
'limited edition' number. In any event, it's a rare model!

A jewel from the revival period of pocket watches from IWC.
Unfortunately then extremely expensive as the catologues from the era show.
But currently more afordable than ever and still underestimated by many
collectors.
