    Estimated members,
I have just registered to IWC forum. My name is Walter, I'm 40, I live in Italy and I am a watch passionate. I wouldn't say that I am a collector: more precisely, I own some nice, vintage/old timepieces.

Recently, I have been given an old hand wound IWC (please see attached pictures; unfortunately they are not super sharp). Steel case, small medium size. No reference engraved on the case back. I have't opened it yet.
After some researches, I learned that it might be from the late '30s; the caliber might be IWC cal 83.
May you be so kind to provide me with more information?
Finally, as you might see in the attached pictures, the dial, which shows a natural patina, may have something wrong: the logo International Watch Schaffausen and the small second subdial seem not very accurate as the dial has been re printed. What's your opinion?
Thank you very muche and kind regards.

    Hi clepsydra,
    Thank you for your reply,
I have already read the post you suggested. The watch discussed in the thread is very similar to mine but there some features of the dial (IWC lettering, second markers) are quite different; plus, the poor quality of the writing may suggest that the dial has been damaged and /or reprinted.
Please find below some sharp macro pictures of the watch.
What is your opinion about it?
Is it worth it to repair/serice it in order to sell it?
    Many thanks and regards
    Walter

    Hi Walter,
The dial was damaged and, as is, the watch has only nominal value, IMHO. Repairing the dial a regola d'arte will be expensive and it is unlikely you will recover the money invested.

    Thank you Clepsydra.
Yes, unfortunately the dial, the plexi and also the band are in very poor conditions, and these factors lower the item's value. As written, I thought that someone reprinted the dial but probably it is the original one yet damaged and faded.
Additionally, at the present time the watch doesn't run and it needs to be serviced (it has not been used for many years: probably there's nothing broken but the lubricants are dry).
    Thnaks and regards
    Walter
