I have a 666 no date. Today I found a NOS Ingenieur Dial. The question is : The dial is certainly original however the index's have no luminous dots... Is this normal? did IWC make dials without those dots?
Many thanks All your help.

Most had luminous dots but some did not (more)
Hi there,
The majority of ref. 666 Ingenieurs had luminous "dots" at the outside of each hour marker, especially the "calatrava" style dials that predominant most examples. See the above pictures from IWC's 1957 and 1966 catalogs (sorry for the large images). However, I have seen various ref 666 dials without the luminous. Do you have a photograph of the NOS dial?
Cheers,
David
ps: Pictures from the IWC Catalog Project.

Again thanks for the info, I feel better!

Here's some more information
The below link was down but is now fixed. It's an article I co-authored with Larry Seiden and Marco Schönenberger on dial variations in vintage ingenieurs.

Dial Variations
As David pointed out, IWC outsourced many (if not all) of the dials and there were many combinations, some quite sporty (with arabics) and some quite dressy and conservative.
As much research as we did for the article, it was clear there were as many variations as you could ever imagine. Remember, this was also the Golden Age of Watchmaking and no idea or concept was too "out there." for the Ingenieur line IWC stuck to the tried and true dial designs.
Best,
Larry

an 852 no date.
Another 766AD

I have to add another 866 of course ,-) nt

Bob, that is such a classic beauty...
marvelous, and in perfect shape.
Could you please remind me the age, and is that bracelet the original ? (knowing you, it is original of course)
Probably I could guess the age from the bracelet's shape... is it late 60's or early 70's ?
Thanks, ciao Rob.
Thanks Rob, it's 1973 with original ref.10...
'oyster' bracelet which I got NOS in original plastic sealing with the watch when I bought it!
Groet,
Bob
