In November, I announced that Benoit DeClerck, President of IWC North America, would be moving to be in charge of IWC in Southeast Asia, which probably is IWC's biggest and fastest growing market (not just for IWC –due to China, it's true for almost all brands). Ben has been a true friend of IWC collectors throughout the world. He's been extraordinarily supportive of me and this forum. A little known fact is that many or our drawing prizes came from Ben, and out of his budget, even though they were distributed worldwide.

I also mentioned that Gianfranco D'Attis would be succeeding Ben as President for North America. That's Gianfranco pictured here –a great guy who's also tall enough to be a basketball player. I was fortunate enough to meet and talk to Gianfranco last month at SIHH. I think it's safe to say “long live the king” : IWC has a very worthy successor to Ben (even if no one can fill his shoes) and a real friend of collectors.

Gianfranco grew up in Schaffhausen, and is first real job was as an intern for IWC in trade marketing. He started at the bottom, and he learned about IWC more than 10 years ago. He knows about this forum when it was first started and he knows all the “old-timers” at IWC. As such, Gianfranco really understands what IWC has been traditionally about. He understands watches and the values that collectors respect and appreciate.

You'd think Gianfranco is Italian, but despite his name and family heritage, his native language is Swiss German –although his English is fine too. He tells the story about how poorly he speaks Italian, and how people are surprised given his name.

Most recently Gianfranco has been head of IWC in the Middle East, centered in Dubai, and he's done really well building up that market. He's only been a little to the U.S., so there'll be some transition and much to learn. But given his intelligence and resourcefulness, I anticipate he'll do great.

Most importantly, or perhaps selfishly, Gianfranco wants to support this forum and collectors. He understands the value that collectors add to IWC. We talked about some events in the United States, and I will be following through once he settles in (translation: a U.S. collectors meeting most likely still will occur in 2011, but will be slightly deferred).

Also, I must tell everyone that I really like Gianfranco. He's unassuming and he listens; he's very bright, a really nice guy, and he's a straight-shooter. He'll be a good friend of all of us, and a pleasure for me to work with.

At the same time, I'll be staying in touch with Ben. So to my thinking this is a win-win for everyone .

    Thanks for this introduction, Michael.

And welcome Mr. D'Attis! I'm sure I speak for all the collectors to say we are pleased to hear you are coming, and you want to support this forum and us collectors! Thank you in advance.

And, of course, thank you to Benoit for your friendship to us. We wish you all the best on your new venture.

Some of us were fortunate to meet Gianfranco at SIHH and he seems like a really nice guy. Although we will miss Benoit, I look forward to even more involvement between IWC and the North American collectors. I especially anticipate that there will be many events held in the US.

Thank you and good luck on your new professional challenges Mr. Benoit DeClerck and Mr. Gianfranco D'Attis.

Actually, when I first read this post, I was ready to toast to the success of an Italian in a key role for IWC but it's ok anyway! :)

Thank you Michael for this informative introduction, I really appreciated it.

Thanks for the introduction, Michael. Based on the comments from you and the collectors who have met him, Mr. D'Attis must be a great guy.

I had the pleasure to twice meet Benoit deClerck and I appreciated all he did for us in North America and at this Forum. I wish him the best of luck in his new assignment.

It is interesting that Mr. D'Attis has apparently not spent much time (yet) in the US (or presumably Canada and Mexico?). I would certainly look forward to the long awaited Collectors' Meeting on this side of the pond and to having a chance to meet Mr. D'Attis.

Maybe as he makes his way around to visit Regional Reps and Dealers and gain a full understanding of his new market, perhaps a series of smaller regional dinners (like the CFDV introduction) might be arranged so he could interface informally with collectors in various cities?

Like Alan, I had the pleasure to meet and talk with Mr. D'Attis in Geneva. I look forward to a continuing positive relationship with him and IWC USA just as we did with Herr deClerck.

I came away with a very positive feeling Gianfranco is a firm supporting of the collectors and The Collectors' Forum I am sure MF very heart felt introduction will not be missed my Ginafranco and his kind words will lay a solid foundation for the future of IWC USA's relationship with the Forum.

I look forward to a Collectors' meeting in the USA whenever it occurs.

Michael, thanks for the introduction of Mr. D'Attis. I am sure that all the North American collectors are most pleased that Benoit's slot is being picked up by someone who understands the passion we have for the brand, and is a friend of the collectors.

Of course, as you write a major thanks to Benoit cannot go unmentioned (especially for sponsoring the giveaways, that keep the forum lively and interactive too, from time to time).

Now of course, rather selfishly we do all hope that Mr. Benoit DeClerck and Mr. Gianfranco D'Attis will not have to battle it out for allocations of special editions and other sought after pieces, as China's growth and hunger seek to consume all of Schaffhausen's manafacture ability (no doubt too be increasingly fueled by Benoir doing a great job out there!)

I wish both Benoit and Gianfranco good luck, and good sales in their new positions.

    Best regards
    Mark

    Welcome Gianfranco!

I am looking forward to the day I get to meet you.

Hopefully, you will consider a "Collectors' Meeting" here in the USA. I hope the opportunity presents itself.

    Best,
