There is a cal. 88 on eBay at the moment that I am interested in. It looks lovely - it is in very good cosmetic condition - but the only concern that I have is that there does not appear to be a serial number on the movement! I contacted the seller, and he says that he cannot see a number on the movement at all, but that the number on the case is 1164740, which dates it to 1949, according to DateYourIWC.

    This is the movement -

The dial and the hands look right to me (although I am far from being an expert) -

And this is the back of the case -

My question is mainly this - could this possibly be a genuine cal. 88, or is it another Frankenwatch, like my other thread?

Also, is it permissible to post links to eBay auctions here? If it is, I will post a link so that you can see the entire auction and perhaps get a better "feel" for it.

Thank you very much to you all for your help!

Please no links to auctions here.
I believe this is an OK cal 88. The cal number should be on the base plate, on the right of the balance cock.( looked at the position of the first picture )

There is a serial number on the movement, you can see parts of it (but not read it)
It is between the balance cock and the barrel bridge.

Thank you very much for your help, Tonny and Watch77! Yes, I can see what you mean about a serial number in the right place for this movement, just partially visible owing to the angle of the photographs.

I have to wait for the refund from my other watch to come through (and one or two other financial things) before I will be able to go ahead and purchase this one, but if it is still available when my finances have lined up I will go for it! I love this style of dial... it is close to being my "perfect" watch!

Thank you both for your help. :)
