I'm looking to buy an IW379901. When comparing images of different year models, I've noticed that the Top Gun case side logo has a few different colour ways. Some look more cream or yellowish, others are more gun metal — Is this just the pictures, or did IWC actually modify this over the years?

Early models, such as the version from the 2008 line, seem to feature an all black logo on the case side. Can anyone shed some light over this matter? Would be highly appreciated.

As far as I know, I don't believe they changed the way the side logo at all - I think it's just the way the photo is taken that's making it appear that it's different. Also, the Top Gun Chrono is a popular replicated model, so perhaps some of the photos you are finding online are of replicas, making it look different.

I find the logo is way less noticeable in person than it is in photos.. I hardly even notice it on my 3799.

Best of luck on your acquisition.

Thank you for your answer. Most replicas seem to have white paint inside the etched Top Gun logo, which make them standout indeed. I have seen some originals featuring just a black etching, which makes me think that the originals also feature a painted etching, that some buyers remove. Any thoughts on that?

Great to know that the logo itself is less visible in reality, compared to photos!

Yeah, I’m not quite sure if there are any models with it “painted” per say.. Mine certainly isn’t :)

Would you say it's simply etched into the ceramic without any additional change? Wouldn't it simply be all black then?

Yep, my is completely etched into the side of the case - that's why it's fairly discreet. Like it's carved into the ceramic :)

Just what I was hoping for! I have now ordered a watch from Berlin. Keeping my fingers crossed that all is well and good... Thanks for the input!
