the date black background and the grey dial is very unique. not something I would go for, but a gem nonetheless.

Another limited edition.
I rather wait for the ceramic BP
Arne
Great Pics!
So it is official now?
What metal is the case?
white gold Franz ! yes its official, lol ! SC's pics are much better than my unofficial ones.
Not yet Shing, my watch box is full at this moment. :)
Cheers,

SC,
Getting one out of two is not bad.
That is a very unusual BP. The black date background immediately got my attention. I like it.
My impression is that it wears bigger than it looks?
BPs are not my taste but that's more than palatable. Somehow that dial looks good and has much better contrast than Spitfire models which I found rather monochrome. Perhaps an idea for Spitfires?
What is the LE for or about? This one has slipped past my radar. Do wish they would announce them on the forum!!!
General Limited Edition of 100 pcs is my understanding - based on what boutique staff told me, so as always there is a possibility of error especially when yours truly heart beat and blood pressure goes into overdrive as is always the case when I am in the flagship boutique, lol.
This is Edition 2011 Boutique Exclusive. 100 pcs in White Gold.
One thing that bothers me about these limited editions is the "One Out Of 100" designation on the back. It is much better to get an assigned unique number. I always imagine (without any evidence whatsoever) that an extra ten or twenty watches could actually be produced and nobody would ever know.
And yes, I am aware that some groups frown on certain numbers as bad luck.
agreed. to make matters worse, the "one of XXX" can be the only distinguishing feature between say, two entire series, identifiable only by that phrase imprint on the rotor, such as the 5026-20 "Middle East" Edition (one of 70) vs the 5026-19 "Blue in Buenos Aires" Edition (one of 40). both share the same dial, at least based what I have seen and after communicating with Franz.
I am going from memory here, but is this dial similar to the Father and Son BP set? I like it, but like some others, I am not sure about the black date.
Exactly the same thought Bill ! After seeing it, I went to take a look at the Father & Son edition. apologies for the poor quality pics.
It's a different silver dial. The 500430 is more on the matt side.
Cheers,
sc
And of course the Father version is platinum cased.
Thanks for the pictures SC.
There are a lot of subtle differences from the other BP special editions.
Very interesting!
Tracy
I would go for it!! It's really very unique amongst all IWC collections!
Very nice - but I believe Jun Jun has now acquired a newfound taste for "lighter" watches, and is waiting to see if 2012 novelties or Pilot remake will bring a titanium and/or ceramic PB.
I do like the dial though - very nice color distribution with that Matt silver.
Thanks for posting SC.
Best regards
Mark
Very nice dial, and I like the black date wheel. If you want to buy a Big Pilot, you really have to look out: the regular one is great of course, but it is always worth while to look and see what special editions are on the market just at that moment.
It would be a great improvement to this IWC site, and forum, if the special editions were shown at the moment that they come available, until of course the moment that they are not available anymore. Some people, not necessary visiting this forum that often otherwise, might be won over to come and have a look at that section on a regular basis. Maybe in combination with Facebook: the announcement over there, more data and pictures over here.
Kind regards,
Paul
I concur about announcing special editions here and am working with IWC on that. However, it's not always simple to accomplish.
To give you one recent example, IWC staff were surprised when Bucherer announced its latest edition: the exact timing was in Bucherer's control but even worse, IWC didn't have a photo of the watch! The photos on the web must have been taken by Bucherer.
I know, a protocol can solve some of this but there are several logistical issues. We are working to announce more special editions here. Also, there will be far fewer special and limited editions in 2012, which makes the issue easier or at least less seldom of an issue.
