    Thoughts?

My first BP. Trying to make the call between these two.

Would appreciate considered thoughts and advice.

    Thanks!

If those are your two choices then you really cannot make a bad decision here. I have the black dial one but would readily add the blue variant so your dilemma may be easily solved if you give it enough time and simply get both.

Thank you. I agree. Either would be a great choice. Although as there will be a gap in between this and the next purchase....BP4ME, can I ask what swung you to the black dial?

I love the classic look of the black, taking on many of the best attributes of the previous BP preferences.

(I still think the original BP 5002 second hand shape is awesome.)

However, there are some attributes to the LPP version which are in keeping with the original (the sliver edged hands, the white date window etc). Also for me the blue sunburst dial is more eye catching than the matte black.

Then on the flip side, I wonder if the blue dial will date in time, and of course the new matte black face is really low profile, clean and sharp. Decisions decisions. Really tough call.

A couple of comments here, if I may. Firstly don't try to find rational behavior behind your own or anyone else's decisions here on this forum. You won't typically find it as purchases are pretty personal and based on individual responses to a parciular piece. In my case I always thought the 5004 black dial was as good as it gets. It's a sturdy looking piece, flexible on setting, antimagnetic and pretty much summed up everything I admire about the brand. I also remember saying that once I had that I wouldn't need any other watches. I get reminded about that commment on occasion too.....

The blue dial wasn't around when I picked up my 5004, other than a platinum variant of the 5002 and for obvious reasons that was out of reach. When the original LPP was released I naturally wanted one and was happy to enable a friend to purchase it, but like a few others here the antimagnetic thing had me holding off. That dilemma seems to have been solved now with the 5009-16. It's a stunning piece and has a ton of great attributes, including the spectacular blue hue they chose and the silver framed hands. Would I choose differently with both on hand? I don't think so, I'd just start planning for the gap purchase pretty soon after the first decision.

I would say simply go to the AD or boutique, try both on at the same viewing and the one that makes you smile more is the one to walk out of there with. I'm looking forward to seeing what you decide but you will hear nothing but congratulations from other members here regardless of which way you go.

    Hi All,

Happy to say I am the proud owner of a Big Pilot. Went with the black face in the end but appreciate your advice. Have paired it with a deep brown leather strap, akin to the original '5002'.

The London Boutique were very helpful and I'm 200% happy with my decision.

    Best,
    R

Congratulations! Excellent choice. Please post some pictures of your new acquisition. Do you have the blue one on order too?
