I am about to order this superb piece after much research, heartache and saving!

With its rose gold case and silver face it is usually represented with a brown strap. Who am I to challenge some tallented designer!

Whilst at an AD recently I had them swap the strap from the brown to black and it totally transforms the watch - it really comes to life, I think mainly because the black strap amplifies the blue background of the moon phase. As a result I am almost certain to order the black strap.

However, I wonder if there is a blue/black strap available within the multitude of colour options IWC can provide, that might be even more striking - but the blueness would have to be subtle. (I think the full blue strap provided on on the white/blue port would be a step too far, hence the idea of blue/black).

Anyone know? Anyone else swapped the PPC to a black strap?

I know my AD will accomodate my every whim but it will be helpful for me to get a heads up before I set him off on a wild goose chase

    Thanks in anticipation

search for the webber machine and there are three colours to choose from and for pin or folding clasp. Black is an option but normally seen on the platinum Ltd Ed version. You should be aware that the Portuguese series do not share a common width of strap. Like your choice but I hope you have seen the novelties section with the blue dial version and a moon phase for both northern and southern hemispheres. If only my problems were to choose which version!!

Beleive me I have seen the blue version in photographs and I agree that looks a fantasic piece. I was on the verge of pre-ordering at one time. On pics it does look truly awesome.

However, I have looked at all 3 current PPC's in the flesh (black, grey and siver faces). From the photo images I was set on buying the black faced, double moon phase as the photo's were awesome. However when I saw it in real life I was a bit dissapointed, it was a bit too "blingy" its shiny gold, with shiny glass and a shiny gloss black face. So overall it loses some of its understated quality and also you lose the clean crisp view of the dials and engineering. IMO!

So I am fearful that the blue may be similar when you see it in the flesh. In addition the blue one is not readily available and I cant wait any longer.

Finally, the blue is going to be £6k more than the current white dial so I need to observe some personal control. I started this journey in March when I set out to buy an Omega moon watch but came home with an Aquatimer, since then I was drawn towads standard £7k portuguese and now I am at the PPC. So I need to draw some fixed budget lines .... surely!

My heart is that silver faced with black strap - in fact I am ordering it right this minute! After 3 months and hours and hours of gazing at this watch I have emotionally already ordered it, so all I need do now is ring my AD.

Thanks for the tip on size of strap though, thats welcome info

Paul - go with your "gut"...it works for you and..

it works for others as well.

From your explanation of your journey towards this fine watch, it's clear it's been a challenging one - and you seem to have risen well to the challenge, and there is no doubt whatsoever that you will enjoy this watch. No matter what strap it's on. Black work for you (and btw- that would be my choice too) then black it should be! Enjoy enjoy...and if you have any tips for me on how to "exercise some personal control" when it comes to ordering IWC watches - please do share it! I am quiet lacking in that arena!

    I went black...

I put the brown away in the box and ordered a custom (not OEM) black croco. Make sure you know the sizes of the two sizes as they are a little different if you are planning to wear it on the deployant.

The measurements I used were 120/60 (the double keeper side).

I also think a dark, dark blue would be nice, but not as nice as a black strap with just a hint of gloss.

    Best,
    larry

    Nice watch and strap

great photo nicely shot and with the hands in the classic smile position, but why with the crown out? My dream of a watch if I was desk bound but I fear it would suffer a few dings or else I would be forever taking it in and out of my pocket
