    Hi all

I am on the verge of buying a 5022, silver face. Yummy!

I have the EILUX 448GL-BK double watch winder and would like some opinion's on using it with the 5022.

Do I need to use the winder?, I imgaine I will wear the watch twice a week and would happily manually wind it every other day or so.

Is manual winding better for either accuracy or long term welfare of the watch? Do winders increase overall wear with the watch parts? Does this matter?

The winder does not have variable speed setttings (it works at 950 turns per day) but it does have clockwise, anti clockwise and bi-directional - I cannot find a reference to the 5022 on the EULUX website so I dont know which direction setting to use - is it not referenced on the site becasue the winder shouldnt be used I wonder?

Sory if this is a dumb question or on the wrong forum - any feedback warmly received.

    Thanks

No need for the winder. 5022 Has 7-Day...

Congratulations. I also enjoy a Portuguese Perpetual Ref# 5022 - it is a unique, and distinctive watch that offers a number of complications and features in a well-executed design.

One of those features is the 7-day power reserve with automatic Pelleton, bi-directional winding system. Just by wearing my 5022 alone for 1 day, and it will build up about 5 days of power reserve (some people may experience more or less - FYI: my 5021 PPC will build an entire 7 days in 12 hours of wear). So, with that average, if you wear it 2x per week - it should never run out of power.

Another great feature is - you can see the "power reserve indicator" in the subdial at 3:00 - it will tell you how many days of power is left - and you can always manually wind it a little. Just a few turns will add an entire day of power.

A photo of my 5022 from a couple years ago - wow. I''ve had it 4 yrs now.

    Eilux winder..

    Hi Paul,

I have a similar winder and a Portuguese Automatic. Whenever I notice the power is low and I don't want to wear the watch, I put it on the winder for a day or two. The power reserve indicator is great, I can take the watch off once it reaches 6.5 days so I won't put unnecessary wear on the winding mechanism.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

IWC 5022 perpatual calendar & EILUX 448GL Winder

    Thanks guys,
I invested in the EILUX some weeks ago when I bought my first IWC (Aquatimer 2000 with white dial) and the IWC and Submariner looked pretty - so I like my winder.

I think the solution is to keep the PPC in the pretty winding machine but not switch it on - then I can have that "wok in the mouth" type smile when I have to take it out, stare at its magnificance and wind it up, then pop it back into its pretty box. Until the next day, when I can repeat the whole process . . . . and I can keep on doing it for 577 years!

My results are not as good as

Richard's when I wear my PPC all day. However, it is consistently 12 seconds fast per day and may need to be regulated before the warranty expires in 2012. As the others have said, the PPC probably does not require a winder due to its long power reserve.!!!!
