IWC Caiber 983

I have a pocket watch from Bergland with a Caliber 983 and would like to know more about it. When was it built? How many were built?

the c.983 is a cheaper version of the c.982, with flat balance spring an KIF shock protection. The number of pieces built is unknown. Probably only produced for Bergland.

The caliber was discussed before in the forum. A search (or a look at the forum) could bring some additional information.

Here it is

Studying HEBE's Post a bit more I found an interesting fact:

The dial is marked "Ebauche IWC Swiss"
This woudl say, IWC just sold teh bas platine and the bridges (raw movement)
So the balance and the escapements and the finishing work had to be done by the finisher (BERGLAND). Maybe even the wheels were done Bergland....

This is an excerpt from an information of Mr. Kurt Klaus about cal. 953 and cal. 983:

[b]Some production plans from 1979 were digitized, the originals are stored somewhere away.

I've found only the drawing of the balance bridge and a drawing of KIF fine regulation of Le Sentier.

The balance was without screws with flat spiral!

That was the only change.

There was a need, the two pocket watch movements c.953 and 983 cheaper to produce, just in time as no one wanted a pocket watch and no one thought of a Portuguese.

Both works have disappeared very quickly, I can not say how many were produced and what happened to it.

Well, if one puts all this knowledge together it is clear that those collectors, who know where they are taking about, have given us a complete enceclopedial view on the Bergland pocket watch.
This is one of the extraordinary aspects of this Forum.
