A few weeks ago, i saw a Caliber 70 on Ebay. I liked it a lot, so i bought it.
Now, i have the following question. It is a model from 1945, the first year of
production (3800 from the total 4500 a year later).
The backplate is not marked. Maybe it is changes over the years, but it seems
original to me. Does IWC always mark the backplate? Also in the early 40's?

that is hard to tell. From my experience, i have never seen a IWC caseback
with that clear signs of machining - milling inside. Also i have never seen a
IWC caseback that is not numbered. I have seen some that have no 'Probus
Scafusia' stamping but all had a serial Number on it.
If someone critical would judge the overall impression he would say that there
is a certain propability that someone put a IWC movement in non IWC case and
to cover this up the original case markings have been removed.
