    Hi All,

I just received an IWC Calibre 89 and have a couple of questions on it.

I was under the impression that the movement has a hacking function, this one
    does not.

The dial looks good, maybe a little "too good" for being a 1960s serial #.
Can you please opine on this as well?

Also, I have noticed that on the back of the lugs of these flared models,
there is usually a ridge on the top right and bottom left lugs, as pictured in
the two sold by Hodinkee. I understand that IWC did produce many a variant on
the Calibre 89 so perhaps there are different versions of the flared lugs.

Photos provided are from the seller but are pretty spot on. I will take some
    of
my own as well. Thank you so much!

    Hi HKS724,

what a beautiful watch! The Movement was produced in 1960. From what i know,
the hacking feature was only used in the Mark 11.

I would not be concerned about the missing gold hallmark on the lugs.

Beautiful watch! To my eyes (old) and considering the medium (picture on a
computer screen), the dial seems original. The signature appears flawless, and
the minute markers look like dots. On a refinish, the minute markers
frequently appear to more closely resemble dimples than dots. The SWISS at the
bottom of the dial looks unusually prominent, but that wouldn't change my mind
about originality. If it is a refinish, it's a really good one. And although
it is unusual to see perfect 60-year old dials, there are some nice ones out
there. IWC made a quality product, so the dial is probably more likely to look
nice with age if it is not overexposed to the elements (moisture, sunlight,
incompetent watchmakers who saturate the movements with oil and don't exercise
care when putting the dial aside).

It seems odd to me that there is no hallmark visible on the case. 18 karat
gold is soft and it could be that the case was polished (and the mark
removed). Or maybe certain markets didn't require hallmarks? The last two
numbers inside the case back are scratched into the case center near the base
metal movement retaining ring (see the Roman numerals VIIII and IIII?), so we
know at least the case isn't a mix-up of different pieces. The inside of the
bezel is probably marked the same way but I don't recommend removing it to
    check.

Overall, from the photos, I would say you have a lovely original IWC caliber
89! And no, it should not hack.
