I have been trying to search the forum but so far unsuccessfully so. Trying to
establish what is known about these "golden boxes" as to when they were being
    introduced and phased out again?

That's a very good question. There are at least two types of these boxes, at
least I own two of theme. As I bought them without the watches, I'm also
interested in the answer. I think, they are from the 1970ies.

Well, those golden boxes were the standard boxes during the 70s, for wrist
watches and pocket watches. "The golden age" :-)

Some very expensive - and limited watch models have got special boxes.

Most probably the watches you can find in these golden- and silver catalogs
from the 70s, were offered with golden boxes.

BTW, those old boxes have a very good performance, often much better as the
    included watches ?!

    And some examples:

    Big thanks!

Thought so too they were seventies boxes, perhaps late sixties also?

At that era new catalogs were not produced every year.
A gap of three years was not uncommen. New models were introduced by
    additional sheets to older catalogs.

I agree with your opinion, but I have no validated data about it.

Boxes topics were and are not popular and only a few collectors care about it,
so the data are correspondingly low.

I used to own this watch, and it was delivered in a gold box. The watch was
    manufactured in 1978.

Oddly, it came in the square box, but had a strap and IWC buckle on it. I
might have expected the longer, more rectangular box for such a watch.

(Sorry, I have not yet figured out how to get some pictures to show while
others seem to have no issue. The watch was an oval shaped 18 karat gold
automatic with a blue Sunburst dial, very 70s style. )
