Donna Tartt's observation of IWC understatement is one of the highlights of a very long book which has a climax in Amsterdam during the same week the first Bill Barker IWC Amsterdam get together took place. No masterpieces were harmed during the GTG.
@ Ralph: Lol.
I remember reading that passage, but forgot about it.
I recall being on a beach somewhere earlier this year, while my wife was reading this book. She woke me from a lazy slumber by tapping me on the shoulder to read me the passage.
Indeed I read it too.
Have not read the book, but saw the namesake painting (which apparently inspired it) by Carel Fabritius at the Frick Collection.
I must say that I appreciate the wisdom of owning watches that look less expensive than they actualy are.
If the book is anywhere near as epic as the BBAMSGTG's ... I will need to go out and buy it!
Then again. I probably could not go wrong - pulitzers and IWC ...class acts!
That is interesting. Can we presume from this that the author is an IWC fan herself?
