Among collectors the p.w. ref. 5310 is virtually unknown.
It is one of the finest pocket watches made by IWC in the "revival" period of the p.w.'s, now some 40 years ago. I wrote a short article on it of which the watch pictures as well as the lay-out were made by "hebe".
He is the only person who can make pictures of this kind.

    Adrian,

Really fascinating and a great read.

One day I'm sure I will venture into IWC pocket watches, and your article has certainly made this particular one an eventual target - I like the zodiac signs on it.

    Thanks for the post!

    Regards,
    Thang

Thanks Adrian, that is one fantastic watch! And the attention to detail - even the pendant ring is 12-sided.

    Best regards,

    Henrik

On this overview picture one can probably better see the black dots to which the "sun" hand points as well as all the golden Zodiac signs on the ring.
For a better understanding, the golden ring is not coupled to the gear train, but it can be turned by hand from inside the watch.
    Kind regards,
    Adrian,
    (alwaysiwc).

    Hello Adrian,

That you for the information and background on this watch. Still an intriguing time when the watch industry was in difficult times.

Iwc produced some very special and groundbreaking pieces!

    Thanks! Martijn

And ps that dial is so beautiful made!

Usually, those Zodiac watches are bigger.

An example from the French Jura.

Great article, thank you both! That is quite an interesting complication; a different take on a perpetual calendar of sorts. I am curious, Adrian, about the golden ring when you say it can be turned by hand from inside the watch. This is something that should only be done by a watchmaker?

    Hi Ben,
Yes, IWC recommends clearly that a watchmaker should do it.

Great and very obscure watch from IWC. It is pretty big, as I remember.

Thanks, Adrian, for the great explanation once again.
