IWC Schaffhausen and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS team up

Schaffhausen, 8 May2012 – IWC Schaffhausen is proud to announce a new global partnership with the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team. The Swiss watch manufacturer embarks on a three-year term as Official Engineering Partner of MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, beginning in January 2013.

When IWC Schaffhausen and AMG, the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz, signed a long-term partnership agreement in 2004, their cooperation was founded on a shared commitment to pushing back the boundaries of mechanics and high technology. Both companies looked back on a long and fruitful history in precision engineering to the highest degree. Since then, they have consolidated their positions at the top of their respective industries and the partnership is set to move to a new level. As an indication of the foundation the two companies have in common, IWC Schaffhausen and the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team are joining forces in a venture that confirms the Swiss watch manufacturer as the Official Engineering Partner of the team. The agreement becomes effective in January 2013, two months before the first race of the 2013 Formula One season in Melbourne, Australia.

    looking forward to seeing them.

However, I thought IWC earlier made an announcement that it would not co-brand with or sponsor car-racing any more as it has gone more environmentally-active/conscious?

Kelvin --never say never. Actually, I think that prior statements were more of a general direction rather than an absolute fiat. The IWC-AMG alliance was never discontinued.

Does this mean my 2013 new IWC will run faster?

Probably not - but I am sure that behind the tie up will also be something more than just marketing and I for one look forward to seeing some of the "high tech" that flows out of this tie up.

    IWC going places!

    Best regards
    Mark

    Probably not -

May be when you get a puncture your wheel is changed in less than 6 seconds. Think we can say there will be AMG a plenty next year.

My friends, you're not paying the right attention to details.

First of all, which material those pellaton's clicks are made of?

Second, our Oliver left a significant trace, I can tell which complication that picture illustrates.

A little hint, it's highly complicated, no, it's not a perpetual.

    Any guess?

    :)

Great news, the previous time it delivered my titanium Ingenieur Automatic AMG on titanium bracelet, and the then new 80110 movement: a winner! So maybe 2013 delivers a new version of this watch in a case like the titanium double chrono, maybe with a new movement too? Gee, it's only May, and now I start speculating about January 2013 already, and the Pilot's season isn't even over yet!

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Roberto/8541 --maybe I'm missing something and jewels, complications, etc. are all very interesting....but what do they have to do with the topic that IWC Schaffhausen and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS team up???

Should this be a separate, new topic? Unfortunately, the current software doesn't allow me to move posts. You'd need to start over.

Ciao Mark and Michael! Sorry, my fault!

I saw that picture and thought it was related to some new technical improvements made for the occasion. Is it derlin? I never saw something like that applied to a calibre of the 5XXXX family.

Second question was about the same picture and calibre, I think I know what it is and I was hoping the development of the thread would have said more about it.

I understand this is not the right post to raise these questions, I will open a new one tomorrow, as today is gone and I'm going to sleep now at the speed of light! Better, of an AMG Petronas!i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm101/flyrobyfly/ec07e123.gif

    Very interesting!

If memory serves me correctly, a 44 jewelled 5000 caliber is a Tourbillon Retrograde Date movement - will be interesting to see which way this goes.

    Cheers,

    Ben

Given Roberto's comment here - I think it's an interesting discussion so I'll move it to a new thread. Please see that post...

I do know that some of us are real keen to see a potential new Limited Series IWC AMG Inge!

    Best regards
