IWC Schaffhausen Official Timekeeper of the Volvo Ocean Race

IWC Schaffhausen, the International Watch Company has been announced today as the Official Timekeeper for the 2011-12 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race.

IWC will present the 24-hour record prize after each of the nine legs, which will be awarded during the prize-giving ceremony at each Host Port. The world's leading brand in luxury watches will also have a special prize for the fastest team over 24-hours. At the end of the race in Galway in July 2012, IWC will reward the fastest crewmembers with a special prize.

Another site indicates the special prize for the crew members "The fastest crewmembers will all be awarded an exclusive IWC timepiece"

And here is poor me, still step by step convincing myself of the need to add the 2010 Yacht Club to my collection (it's a watch that just grows and grows on one!).....and now, there will be this special Volvo Ocean race watch!

It's absolutely great to see IWC raise the visibility of the brand - and as we all know, the Volvo Ocean Race has huge media cover.

Cant wait to see the pics of the new watch!

This is wonderful news! I am a big fan of the Volvo Ocean Race. In 2006, I had the pleasure of going to Rotterdam and sail out to greet the participants.

I posted a few pictures from the race boats we saw then on my Facebook page.

I hope IWC will also make a few watches for sale, not just for crew members.
