Does anyone know what the star stamp means on the back of my cal83's dial?
Hello dear IWC-keepers,

better picture
Looks more a watchmakers sign than an official stamp.
Hi MichaelNL,
yes we can!
the star on the dial is the manufacturer's trademark. The dial was produced by
the "Stern Fr eres" Dialmanufacture. Those are the guys that bought the
Patek Philippe watch manufacture around 1930.

.Thanks for that info. Again something learned on the forum
That is very cool!
Thanks. Is it rare?
Hi all,
My first thought was also that it is the dial maker's mark. But in the picture
it looks like it is something scratched later. And the star on
the dial has 5 points, Cromagnon's example has 6. Is it really the mark of
that maker?
Best regards,
Henrik
Stern used a 5 pointed star on thier dials.
Dear fellow vintage IWC enthusiasts,
the usage of "Stern" dials was quite common in the mid of the last century.
This fact is also mentioned in David Seyffer's book "Die
Unternehmensgeschichte von IWC Schaffhausen".
However the fact that the Stern family owns the major part of the Patek
Philippe shares does not increase the collectors value of the specific IWC
watch.
