IWC Schaffhausen announces that an exclusive selection of historical and new IWC timepieces, including several vintage Ingenieur watches dating back to the 1960’s and 1970’s, will be auctioned off at Sotheby’s in Geneva on May 11th 2013.

    www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/2013/important-watches-ge1301/overview.html

The launch of the first Ingenieur in 1955, Ref. 666, took place at a time of growing enthusiasm for technology and economic boom. Its automatic movement with bidirectional winding had been developed by the then Technical Director Albert Pellaton and gave IWC a decisive competitive edge. The watches were aimed specifically at a professional group that came into regular contact with magnetic fields and gave the watch its name: engineers – or, in German, Ingenieure.

Overall about 30 historical and new IWC time pieces will be auctioned in Geneva.

    Someone cleaning the closet?

What a number of want-to-have IWCs incl a 866 with black dial, not seen very often.

I haven't checked the catalog, but the black dial one shown here is ref 666, and slightly more common with a cal. 8531 movement.

some very nice watches here, does anyone know, are these all in original condition, ie have been owned/held by IWC since being manufactured or have they been acquired by IWC at a later date and restored?

    Yes Michael,

You're aboslutely correct. I was referring to the catalogue lot 234 which definitely shows a black 866AD even though the crown looks a little odd.
