The last several weeks I have been contemplating what I want to wear as a
primary daily IWC chronograph, while some older, more collectible examples
rest in the safe awaiting occasional wear. Slowly my "wants" for a new watch
began to materialize.
Though I had seen this model before, I glossed over it as just another Pilot
variant. Then when member Tilo posted a thread testing iPhone photos on the
Forum, his "Tribute to 3706" tricked me for a moment. It had everything about
the 3706 that I loved, but the subtle differences from an original 3706 did
not register with me immediately. Shortly after questioning on the thread
"what watch it that?," I "re-discovered" the reference.
The Pilot 3777-24 represented everything I wanted: newer construction (2018),
creamy warm luminous markers and hands, minute and hour hands in the style of
the 3706 (based on the Ministry of Defense requisition from the 1940's), a
larger diameter case, and as a result of the larger case-larger and easier-to-
read sub dials!
Thanks to Tilo's post, the "Tribute to 3706" rang loud and clear as THE ONE! I
sourced a "mint" example the same day (last Friday April 3), and received it
yesterday. I swapped the NATO-style strap with the bracelet from my other 3777
Pilot. Here it is, looking much like Tilo's picture, only on the other wrist!
Thanks for reading, and thank you Tilo for reminding me what a great example
this watch is!
