ApprenticeI find it so strange that the watch on the left has a different shaped hand on the power reserve than the one on the right. I have seen this on many examples of this watch. Why would IWC do this? Mistake?

The difference is subtle - you hardly see it if nobody tells you. If you're told, you'll see it always - of course.
It's kind of unique piece - until the next service ;-) -
