    Hi

I am new to this forum but not to the world of horology. Recently a friend and collector showed me a IWC 1930's watch he wanted to sell.At first look i thought it was a vintage Cartier Tank of some sort.Solid Gold long rectangular with a case reference # of 5375 serial # 1248957 i did the usual searched and have come up short. I would like to purchase this beauty but first need to know more information about it like movement history of this model and so on. Condition is excellent .... i look forward to hearing back from this knowledgeable forum. I have a pic but doesn't look like i can post ?

    Best: Marko

    Hi Marko
Without a photograph it is impossible to offer any opinions on the watch.

The reference number - 1248957, you quote is confusing and dates the movement to be Cal. 96 from 1951.

    Case #5375 dates to 1886.

To post a pic, upload it to FLICKR and copy and paste the BB code.

Cal 96 is 8 3/4 Lignes approximately 19.5mm. Making it a small movement. It has been used in Ladies watches and would be ideal in a tank case.

My email is under my profile info. I look forward to seeing the pic.

    Here's your image

I hope someone who knows this era of IWC watches will be able to identify it.

Cal. 87 might be a movement suited to this case. This watch does not have small seconds though.

Can you get movement photos from the owner to aid identification?

As per Forum rules, we are not allowed to discuss watch values.

With the information you now have, plus what I discussed with you via email, you will be able to search the internet for similar pieces.

I don’t think this is a piece that will attract mutch attention.
